The second in a series of six outdoor summer movie events kicks off Saturday with live music by local band Matt Hole and the Hot Rod Gang and the PG-rated film, "The Sandlot."

"They’ll be moon walks, a concession stand with drinks and free face painting for the kids," Flicks in the City committee member Eddie Geis said.

Flicks in the City, presented by Focus On a Creative Urban Society, offers families an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of downtown by watching a movie under the stars along with enjoying the music of a popular local band.

"It’s a good-hearted event but we’re also trying to get people downtown," Geis said.

The 1993 comedy about young Scotty Smalls and his adventures with his band of baseball-loving pals during one summer will be projected onto the side of the Ward building allowing both young and old patrons of the event a chance to revel in the family-oriented fun.

The three-member band Matt Hole and the Hot Rod Gang will start the night off with a bang with their special brand of rockabilly tunes mixed a splash of rock ’n’ roll including "We’re from Texas," "Tiny" and "Street Machine."

Formed nearly a decade ago, the band has three albums, a strong fan base and most recently performed for the masses at C-101 C-Sculptures.

The band also will perform songs by the legendary Johnny Cash.

"Our music appeals to everyone from 8 to 80," said lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Hole."It’s free — come support the live music scene."
