my only question would be where is bridgeport? i would expect big things from them this year, especially if their d steps it up. i anticipate them to go atleast 8-2 or 9-1. the battle of big sandy will be a doozie again. but other than that i like the list.

WO-S... show me something... highly touted, and IMO, still needing to prove some that they deserve it.. but thatsjust me
i like em

Gobbla2001
06-19-2005, 11:24 PM
Well if you think about it, none of these teams deserve to be up there unless they return 11-11 starters with that logic...

I think WO-S has some studs coming back from a good team... You guys forget that they had a dang good season, they just didn't live up to what someone ranked them...

I expect big things from them...

i think wo-s will do alot better this year, they deserve to be in the top 15 IMO, but im not sure where. i expect alot of good things to come out of that team this year.

I think # 3 is still high Matt.I think around #8 would be better.Yes we will be improved from last year but how much more is still up in the air.I think you put Jasper about right and I don't think anyone can argue about Cuero.

I think that Sweetwater is a top 25 team. I also would probably have Abilene Wylie at around 12th and Snyder maybe a little lower too.

Now we just need to hear how Kirbyville will destroy the Tigers and Dogs.

Gobbla2001
06-20-2005, 12:32 PM
Well, if you're not from Cuero or the surrounding area, you should argue their ranking... lost the whole O-Line basically along with their experience... lost an honorable mention all-state QB, lost a 1st team all-state LB etc...

But they'll be much improved...

Gobbla2001
06-20-2005, 12:36 PM
I'd personally rank Gilmer a little higher because that sign they have in their town cracks me up...

My top 5 would have to be:

1. Jasper
2. Cuero
3. Gainesville
4. WOS
5. Palacios (;) )

As a Gilmer fan, I believe them not being rated is entirely fair. Their strength will be on defense where they will return 4 starters and 2 others with significant experience throughout the playoffs last year. Gilmer's coaches are very advanced on playing young players and getting alot from them. All the players are on play counts and they will not excede those. This theory has kept the starters fresh for the 4th quarter while also giving valuable experience to the backups. They only had one two players that played both ways last year and they were both receivers. QB will be their main concern especially when running spread offense but they will return 2 OL who started as freshmen. The entire starting line for this season is rumored to be all sophmores. Look out in 07 and 08 for sure.

I went out today and started kicking field goals.....i made 10 in a row i think.....and all the freshmen who dont know me (we have a freshmen class and a jv/varsity class) thought i was a recruited kicker.

BTW Jasper people ( or those who care ) , after my showing today....it looks like i just might be the kicker after all.

That was probably the play when big Red Bryant nailed him in the open field. Just think, 6-5, 315 pounds of mean coming after you, you fake to the right, Red doesn't go for it, you fake to the left, Red keeps on coming, then COLLISION TIME. I think that was Billy's last high school down at QB. This is not meant as a knock at Billy Pittman. He was obviously a Div I athlete. Just saying Red Bryant was that good.

We've got much more than one player over here. Just because we have one that has a big spotlight on him, it doesn't mean he's all we have. Don't forget - between the two of us, only one of our coaches have proven they know what it takes to win it all. I know it was a long time ago, but our coaches are still here, so they know that depending on one player will kill you. We've got Thomas, White, Arline, Cook, Lynch and a bunch of others ready to step up. So heed your own advice, Jasper. It's accurate. :D

That applies equally to Jasper also. :) Of course, Jasper has some depth, but I would surely hate to seem them go into this season without the fellow who wears number one. :)

I think what I said was misunderstood. I said "Sweetwater is returning the house". Carillo is only one player in that house. He is just the most recognized among Texas high school coaches and sports writers. We finished 2nd to Cuero in this years state track meet (by 2 points), with 3 sophomores on our 3 relay teams. We have unbelievable speed at all skill positions RB,WR,CB,SS,& FS (not QB,strong arm though). But, anyone can run the wishbone(SEE Lawrence "Just got paroled" Phillips). Former Nebraska QB. Our biggest loss was on the O-line, 2 guards and 2 tackles. But, our coach prefers to play seniors on the O-line (when they are at their biggest).

i don't see why cuero is ranked #1. they lost 10 starters on offense  i dont see how this boy puts a helmet on. he's so damn arrogant that the team doesnt even like him. now the dt's from last year who could barely walk on the field to play defense have to play both ways. thats gonna be fun to watch. if speed won state then palestine definitely would have won. cuero has no chance this year with the loss of their offensive line, awesome general leading the team, a workhouse at rb and fb, and some great receivers who werent scared to catch passes like tre gray. cuero will be lucky to make it to the playoffs this year. yoakum will beat them and then maybe gonzales or hallettsville. cuero fans just need to hope for next season or someone to transfer to cuero.

Don't call players out. If all you want to do is start a stink, I'll see that it doesn't happen again.

Do I need to pull your head out of your rearend?:inlove: First of all, the no chance part is way outta line, and the qb coming in this year is a hellavu athlete, perhaps he'll be even better than mr. shumacher when he matures through the season. Oh, and we still have work horses at rb, three I think in fact, and tre gray will also be there. Next time, get your facts straight before you post such idiocy. Gee, and I thought cuero ppl were bad enough, I never thought ppl 20 miles away could be that worse about talking smack!:inlove:

Interesting perspective Yo-Tex funny but interesting nonetheless. Maybe you should ask #84 *one of the top Sophmores to watch* as per Dave Cambell's Magazine what position he is going to be playing this year and then tell me Cuero has no lineman and thats not even mentioning 6'2 290 DT from last year who on another site is listed as one of the top lineman in the state to watch moving to the offensive side of the ball along with the other DT from last year, throw in an all state TE/DE 6'2 220 and the new move in 6'1 240 playing center and theres your line for next year . Not even going to touch on the Defense let's just say it will be as good or better than last year .

But your right Cuero has no line

Oh c'mon guys... let's not argue with it, let's just post it every day... or pm the players on this board every day with this... it'll be great...

The line and the experience seem to be the question mark this year... but the talent? That seems to be the improvement... we'll wait and see...

I think these boys will be ready to play, they could drop a game or two during the season just because of mental mistakes, but I doubt it... by playoffs this team will be better than last year's... just my opinion though...

Casey will be tough to replace... but as you know, since you're a Cuero boy under a Yoakum name for some dumb reason, Jackson will be playing at LB... so there's little or no drop-off there...

And as for losing the QB? He was great, awesome athlete and all of that jazz, but I believe our defense bailed the O out quite a bit this year, it's not like our offense was unstopable...

And as for Larvell? He filled in a large hole this past season... but we have replacements...

So are you gunna be on J.V. this year, Yo-Tex? That is the Cuero J.V., of course...

I wouldn't go as far as to say 'best' qb since clint finley, that's going a little too far there. I would say they had the best 'coach' since finley...hint hint(littleton :foul: )! If you wanna argue w/ me about the statement earlier, I can give you a good talkin' to!

I was going to stay out of this, but .. that's just not my nature :)

I just hope that all the players can work together for the good of the team. If you have a problem with a certain player for whatever reason, put it past you and you'll be a better person for it and the end result will better for all. I don't think anyone will argue that Cuero did lose some fine athletes and competitors - but they were "the young ones" once and they overcame and grew into men and hopefully that will happen again this year. We've got huge shoes to fill, wouldn't it be better for EVERYONE if the team walking in those shoes walked in the same direction instead of taking different paths?

i think what it boils down to is "oh we messed up last year thinking they wouldnt do good so we better rank them high this year just in case." when a team loses almost all of its starters they shouldnt remain #1 in the state no matter what. even if cuero wins state this year, they dont deserve it right now based on the fact that they have a lot of unproven players coming into the mix this year.

That's a crazy statement. There is no way that Wimberly would have "mowed the field" with IP. You ever think maybe IP got better as the year went on, as well? Could Wimberly have beaten them? Sure. They were both quality teams, but your statement is very insulting to an IP team that actually did win the game by the way.

And let's not forget the title of the thread: Top 25. No one is saying IP should be #2 or #3. All I'm saying is that given their success the last couple of years and the number of returning starters, they have an excellent chance of being as good or better, which would easily put them in the top 25.

Let me rephrase it, I can understand I wasn't 'exactly' clear here...

The Wimberly team I saw play Cuero would have mowed over the Iowa Park team that I saw beat Wimberly earlier in the season...... I didn't see IP play the rest of the year so no, I can't say they would have been mowed over had they met again... but Wimberly just wasn't giving it their all or something early in the season...

The week after the IP game, Wimberly lost to La Vernia...

In the first round of the playoffs, the week before I saw them again against us, they beat La Vernia 44-6 or something to that effect... They went from average to dang scary between the two times I saw them...

Sorry if I insulted any IP people... then again, not really, because I do believe what I've said...
