HOOKS ON TV - (Corpus Christi, TX) – FSN Southwest has announced plans to televise the June 16th game at Whataburger Field between the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Frisco RoughRiders. This will not only be the first televised game in the history of the Hooks, but it will also be the first regular-season Texas League game televised by a regional network.

The game itself will pit the Double-A affiliates of the two major league clubs from the state of Texas. The Hooks, owned by Ryan-Sanders Baseball with Nolan Ryan and Don Sanders as principal owners, are in their inaugural season as the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, while the RoughRiders are in their third season as the Double-A club for the Texas Rangers. Viewers will have a chance to see the future stars for both major league teams.

As is the case with any special event production, the telecast will also be a showcase for the city of Corpus Christi. “Viewers will be exposed to the Hooks’ home, the new state-of-the-art Whataburger Field, and the terrific scenery surrounding the field at the Port of Corpus Christi,” said Hooks’ President J.J. Gottsch. “Essentially, the city of Corpus Christi will be on display for roughly three hours on June 16th.”

The last time the Texas League received any national television exposure was back in 1994 and 1995 when Prime Sports televised the Tex-Mex All-Star Game played in the States. At that time, the two leagues pitted their respective All-Stars in a two-game series, with one game played in Texas and the other played in Mexico. The 1994 game in Texas was televised from San Antonio, while the 1995 stateside production emanated from El Paso.

“We’re excited to showcase the major league stars of tomorrow on these Texas League telecasts,” said FSN Southwest Senior Vice-President/General Manager Jon Heidtke. “Fans of the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers will have an opportunity to peek into the future as we continue our commitment to growing our regional coverage.”

FSN Southwest, the television home of the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, reaches over eight million cable and satellite TV homes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

The June 16th telecast will be the first of two Texas League games that will air on FSN Southwest this season. The network also plans to televise the Texas League All-Star Game from Frisco on June 21st, which will also air on FSN South and FSN Midwest (tape-delayed).

In addition to the coverage detailed above by FSN Southwest, Time Warner Cable in Corpus Christi has announced that Hooks’ home games can be seen on Channel 95 the following day at noon. These taped-delayed telecasts will continue for the remainder of the 2005 season
