I just received a phone call from my daughter. Evidently she, 3 girls and 2 guys just pulled up at my house and found a rattlesnake slithering across the driveway.

They jumped out and beat it senseless before decapitating it. (Not sure how much my daughter actually had to do with this).

I asked her how long it was and her answer was "Mom, it was freakin' huge"!! So....it could be either a foot or 5 feet long!

She said it's rattle had 6 buttons so it wasn't just a youngster. I will see when I get home, evidently they left the carcass laying there in the middle of the driveway!

If it gets hot enough here today, it can probably fry on the driveway!

I am more suprised at the fact there were not shots fired by either a pistol of a shotgun that was stuck underneath the seat. The other doesnt suprise me one bit.

Well the poor little thing ended up being MAYBE 1-1/2 feet long. I doubt very seriously that it had 6 buttons on it's rattle, but I don't know, they cut that off and took it with them.

If it's the same kind as the one in the picture, don't kill it because it won't hurt you...http://www.texassnakes.net/DiamondBacked.htm

It is long dead, we cut it in half and both parts started to crawl away.

We just got back from my brother and sister-in-laws house. Their dog got bit by a rattlesnake about 10 minutes before we got there. When we left about 2-1/2 hours later, her head was the size of a basketball!

They are thick out here right now!

No joke....a baby is more harmful than a full grown rattler.

Oh my! I hope she'll be okay! :(

Do NOT let me ever get close to a rattler, I don't care what size it is. I've seen first-hand, too many times, of the damage a bite can do to a human or animals. My brother (the one with less than good sense) is an actual textbook case.

I assume you are asking why a baby rattler is more dangerous than an adult!

From what I have always heard...an adult will strike quickly, releasing a little venom and then back off. A baby will strike and release ALL it's venom and if you are lucky will let go of you.

Evidently they don't have the instinct to know when to back off...like most youngsters!!:D
