You know you are from Corpus Christi when ...

1. People call it "Corpus."
2. Flour Bluff is considered another town.
3. Calallen is considered "out of town".
4. People remember hurricanes fondly.
5. A big concert for us is some dude or band from the 1980's playing at
Concrete Street (and everyone goes).
6. We get excited if a new restaurant opens in town --- even if it's an
IHOP.
7. You spend 5-7 years at Del Mar for that associate's degree.
8. Going for a cruise means driving down Ocean Drive.
9. You know what a #1 or a #5 is at Whataburger.
10. You remember fondly when Ray and Miller won state in 1959 and 1960 and still talk about it.
11. You consider yourself a "Buc".
12. Landry's and Joe's Crabshack are considered upscale restaurants.
13. You camp out with your family on Leopard Street for 4 days for the
Buc Days parade.
14. There's a difference between the HEB's.
15. You claim you want to leave, but you never do.
16. You have Whataburger and Jalisco's on speed dial.
17. You've lost your keys, your money and your virginity at the beach.
18. You grew up watching Joe Gazin and Dale Nelson.
19. The wind doesn't bother you.
20. You secretly love it, but won't admit it.....
21. "Meeting a celebrity" means standing in line at HEB next to the
local weatherman.
22. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a camper on
SPID.
23. The morning commute is aggravated by "heavy traffic" between 8:05 and 8:08 AM
24. "Vacation" means driving to South Padre.
25. Your letterman jacket's too hot to wear 10 months out of the year.
26. Your work or classes are canceled because of dangerous 30 degree
weather.
27. You see people wear tank tops at funerals.
28. You think of the major food groups as beans, tortillas, and beer.
29. When it rains it's the talk of the town for days.
30. When it snows it's a regional disaster. (Snow?)
31. During the summer, the car trunk doubles as an oven for your
groceries.
32. You consider Corpus a metropolis.
33. The local paper covers national and international headlines on one
page, but requires 6 pages for high school football.
34. You've had to switch from Heat to A/C in the same day.
35. You only own 3 condiments: mayo, ketchup, & bbq sauce.
36. You think that opening weekend for dove and deer seasons are
national holidays.
37. You find 98 degrees "a little warm," and 60 degree down right
freezing.
38. You think the only seasons are hot, damn hot, and winter... which lasts three weeks.
39. You know if another person is from out of town the second he or she walks in the door.
40. "Overachievers" go to A&M (College Station) or UT-Austin. The rest must choose from TAMU-CC, Del Mar or TAMU-K.
41. You've had several friends move away and move back within a couple of months.
42. Sandia is both something you eat, and somewhere you live
43. The Shrimporee, Bayfest, &the Livestock Show are the major social events for the whole year.
44. Honeymoon means "San Antonio."

Yes in 1959 there were only two schools in Corpus Christi and that was Ray and Miller. At that time only one team from each district could go into the playoffs and basically they played for the district championship in 1959 and 1960 with Ray winning in 1959 and Miller in 1960. Both teams won their state championship games against Wichita Falls who scored 6 points on each team but Ray scored the 20 to 0 win in 1959 and Miller scored the 13 to 6 win in 1960. Two good teams indeed. In fact Miller reached state again in 1963 but lost the championship game to Garland 17 to 0.
