I guess this is the first year for this, (in West Texas anyway). Seems like a very worthy cause! Does anyone from the West know of anymore 3-A kids on the roster?

Greenwood senior, Jarrell Brooks, will compete with 39 other Class A through Class AAAAA football players at the first West Texas Football Classic, shceduled to be played in Lubbock at Lowery Field at 7 p.m., June 4th.

Brooks joined the efforts that will send all proceeds to players who have suffered permanent and severe injuries in high school football.

Idalou Coach Johnny Taylor and Lubbock Monterey Coach James Morgan organized and planned the game with players from Tulia to Greenwood and Snyder to the state line.

June 4: Inaugural West Texas Football Classic
The inaugural West Texas Football Classic will be the first annual high school all star game to be played in June of each year. The event is hosted by West Texas Football Classic, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. The purpose of the classic is to showcase the area high school football talent and most importantly provide a charity that provides funds to players which have been permanently disabled as a result of injuries suffered playing football. The two all star teams will consist of 80 players selected from 53 schools districts ranging from class 1-A to 5-A. The school districts are located within a boundary being Tulia High School to the North, Midland/Odessa to the South, Snyder High School to the East and the Texas/New Mexico state line to the West. The inaugural game is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 7:00PM. The game will be played at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. The players, coaches, trainers and managers will arrive in Lubbock on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 to begin preparations for the game. Each day the players, coaches, trainers and managers will participate in practice and other activities which include a banquet to be held on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 7:00PM. Basic sponsorship for the event is $1,000.00 which provides a full page black and white advertisement in the game day program, 10 game passes, the name of your business or individual name on the electronic message board, your name or business name acknowledged by the P.A. during the game(at least 4 times) and being a charter sponsor of the inaugural game which will become the premier high school football event in Texas. Please note that we offer the back cover (4 part color) and the inside covers for front and back for a slight increase in price. If you should have any questions please contact (806) 771-3359 or (806) 787-3077.

So much for it being "west texas", that's a little north for west texas don't you think? Good luck to all participants....

can't understand how Cannon McWilliams of McCamey was left off of that list. Great QB at McCamey and possibly the best all-around athlete in the Permian Basin.

Here is the roster, I am not hating against these kids but personally I think they left off about 60% of the best players in west texas, McWilliams in McCamey, Jefferson in Stockton, half of the all-permian basin team wasn't even looked at, it's a chame but whatever makes the game a good one....
