Gillispie expects Wright to get agent

Texas A&M men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie said he expects junior Antoine Wright to hire an agent in the next few days, which would ensure that Wright stays in the NBA draft.

Wright had declared for the draft without an agent, which would have allowed him to return to A&M the Aggies next season if he pulled out by June 21.

“ It’s moving quickly in that direction,” Gillispie said.

Wright, a first-team All-Big 12 selection, is widely projected as a mid-first-round pick in the June 28 draft. The 6-foot-7 guard/forward could become the first A&M player selected since Winston Crite in 1987. Wright could not be reached for comment.

Gillispie said the Aggies would miss Wright’s on-court contributions and leadership, but he’s excited for Wright and knows the program will benefit long term, as recruits see how far Wright progressed in one year under the coaching staff after a disappointing sophomore season.

“ I do think it has long-lasting positive effects for us,” Gillispie said.
