Looking through the Leader Boards on Dallas Morning News...Top 3 TE's in 3A (Area):
Dustin Daniel Wills Point 12 rec/178 yds/2 TD
Lance Kettler Grandview 7 rec/168 yds/0 TD
Giorgio Bostice Kennedale 8 rec/147 yds/2 TD
There may be others, but not every team lists the positions for their players on the website.

those are only the stats that were REPORTED to the DMN ... not all teamas report them. and, most receptions/yards does not always = "best".

3Afan, what standard would you use for rating the best TE? There aren't any stats for best blocking TE. Receptions, Yards, and TDs seems like the only way to compare them. If yo uhave another standard, I would love to hear it.

I'm sure that not all stats are recorded correctly (I've seen 24 yards credited to a player who has never caught a ball in a game). I know DMN doesn't have every players's stats listed, and they are definitely not accurate. Whhere else would you turn to compare players by position?

Sealy's Brantley I believe is playing TE now. Tried him at QB last year, but I think now he's back at TE, which is his natural position. I think he can play at the next level.

LG also always seems to have good TEs.

I think that the shaggyD.A. from kirbyville #46 should be among the top. I mean no one in 3-a could make a transition from the hard courts of doubles tennis to the football field as quickly as he has!!!

Yahhhhhhh La Grange's tight end, can't give him a name right now but he is darn good at blocking and dang sneaky at positioning himself for a pass...

you have to SEE them and make your own judgement ... you think colleges rely on the DMN or other papers to rate their players? no, they go watch them play or watch film. granted, all state/district/area teams are usually based on stats but thats why when they're announced there's always a big uproar. now if we could see ALL of the TE stats that would be different, but the DMN list is not all inclusive, its just those that are sent in by coaches, and some do NOT send in their stats in order to keep as much info as possible from their opponents. bottom line - IMO you can't really say Daniel, Kettler & Bostice are the best TEs based on the DMN stats.

Although both are excellent blockers, Stiffler is bigger and more physical while Schramm is a bit taller and faster. Both have real good hands. LG passes mostly to Schramm, but Stiffler has not dropped a catchable pass yet in a game since Coldsprings in 2002 playoffs. He made a nice one handed catch in the endzone in the 'Dome two games back! Stiffler also plays right OT as #70. :)

giddings has a tighted i think 86 is his # (im not sure of his name) but he has got to be one of the best blocking tight ends. He weighs about 250 and he drives defensive ends out of plays.

Nick Lee out of Vernon should get some serious looks. He is 6-4 and about 250. Soft hands and is a very good blocker. He has like 3 catches this year, but Vernon is a running team.

Sintons tight end... i think he is a tight end.. Lamb... is as good as a tight end as his brother was... If its thrown at them... they catch it..

Kennedale is obviously a running team (81% run/19% pass: 174 rushing attempts, 43 passing attempts in the first 4 games). Rex and Weldon get the majority of the carries. If you credit the TE with any of the running game's success (1408 yards, 22 rushing TDs), then that should reflect well for Bostice. Consider that he has caught 8 of the 22 completed passes for the Widlcats, for 147 yards and 2 TDs (plus 4 2pt conversions, although 3 were called back due to penalties). Add the fact that the Wildcats sit their starters in blowout games (starting in the 3rd quarter vs A maceo Smith). That should make a good argument for Bostice.
Compare his stats to D. Daniels (Wills Point) 12 rec/178 yards/2 TDs. Now consider that Wills Point averages 30 pass attempts per game.
I don't know any other way to compare Tight Ends, but I would like to hear your point.

I don't know any other way to compare Tight Ends, but I would like to hear your point.Nice breakdown and analysis CatsDen. Obviously efficiency is important in assessing receptions. Also half of the job at TE is blocking, so let's take a look at yards gained on the right side or the left side. IMO the best TE is a hoss who can block like a tackle, but has sure hands for the critical short yardage plays. Speed is second to size, strength and agility. If you want to gain 50 yards throw to a speedy wide receiver. If you want to make a first down, 2 point conversion or score from the 5 then throw to a huge pillar of a man who shruggs off a Db like a mosquito. wink
