View Full Version : Favorite sports movie

They had the thread about Sandlot which is one of my favorite sports movies of all time. There have been many movies that may be comedies with a sports theme.
I also liked Hoosiers and Rudy with the underdog coming up big.
Maybe my all time favorite though, which is "kind of" a sports movie was Caddyshack. My man, Rodney Dangerfield (may he rest in peace), stole the show.

Hoosiers for me, with the Natural close behind. but i just dont see sandlot as being a sports movie. i see it more of a nostalgic look at our youth and making lifelong friendships. but a great choice for favorite movie nonetheless.

SO many great sports movies, Hoosiers, Field of Dream, the Natural, Remember the Titans, Friday Night Lights, Rudy, these and many more classics are on the list. How can we forget about Major League and The Replacements, those are some funny sports movies. Also gotta throw in Ali, Varsity Blues and White Man Cant Jump, and definately Cool Runnings. I know some of y'all may not consider pool a sport, but The Hustler and The Color Of Money are great movies too.

The best of all time in my book, and neither the original nor the remake ever made it to theaters. The remake was just as good.

i saw the Natural when it first came to theaters. my dad (a little league coach for 30 years and a baseball fanatic) took me and my 3 brothers to see the 11:00 pm showing. it was an amazing experience and one of my most memorable.

Bull Durham, with the best line ever in a movie.

"I believe in the soul, the *** , the*** , the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good Scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are overrated self-indulgent crap, that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe that there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core ***, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

Doc another movie in that category was The Cincinatti Kid with Steve McQueen, Edward G. Robertson, Ann Margaret and Karl Malden. It did for stud poker what The Hustler did for pool. I know some may not consider poker a sport but the Sports Channels sure show a lot of it.

I think I may have changed my mind...I watched Friday Night Lights, and that move gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it, and it fires me up and makes me want to put some pads on.

The Water Boy and the Rookie are some other good sports movies. Kevin Costner in "For Love of the Game" was another good one.
