Who do you think is going to make it to the regional tourney in Kingsville. Are West Oso and Aransas Pass the top two favorites, also who are the suprise teams in the region?

Down here in 32-3A the suprise team has been Rio Hondo...they were on a 14 game win streak until Raymondville beat them last week. Both teams ended up sharing the district title with identical district records but had a seeding game yesterday. Here is the article:

Bobcats claw out No. 1 seed

LA FERIA — Their last two head-to-head contests were memorable, but nothing more than distant memories by now.

They had already split the regular season series with each team losing on the road.

But on Saturday, all that concerned the Rio Hondo Bobcats and Raymondville Bearkats was winning one more.

Already District 32-3A co-champions, Rio Hondo and Raymondville squared off for the third time in a month to decide the top seed for the playoffs.

The Bobcats (26-8) garnered league bragging rights with a hard-fought 58-50 win at a packed La Feria gym.

Rio Hondo head coach Joe Guzman said his Cats waited all week for this game. He said they were ready for intensity they anticipated.

"Our kids really wanted it," Guzman said. "We challenged them because they felt disappointed after Raymondville broke our winning streak last week."

Guzman referred to the second-to-last district game that the Bearkats (21-11) won in Rio Hondo by 20 points. At the time the Bobcats were riding a 14-game winning streak.

With the win, the Bobcats earned a first-round bye in the Class 3A state playoffs.

Rio Hondo now awaits the winner of the Sinton Pirates/Cotulla Cowboys bi-district contest for its area contest next week.

After this win, Guzman was glad to have the bye, but by no means does he expect the Bobcats to rest much.

"We’re going to be out there working," Guzman said. "We’re going to have a few extra days to prepare and we’re takign advantage."

The Bearkats now have to dust off and play the Zapata Hawks in their bi-district contest. The Kats and Hawks tip-off on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Mission High School.

Following their loss to Raymondville, Guzman said they spent more time watching film than actually working out in the gym over the past week.

Guzman said they analyzed both games and figured out a way to beat a "very athletic" Bearkats team.

"We took away the full-court press and went with a half-court press," Guzman said. "We gave up to many freebie baskets last time."

Raymondville head coach Tom Wolfe said the Bobcats utilized their Twin Towers effectively.

Sophomores Brian Martinez and Jonathan Medina each scored 15 points, but their dominance inside and on the boards proved more dooming for Raymondville.

"We never got into our transition game," Wolfe said. "They did a great job of controlling the game tempo. Their big guys made a difference."

Raymondville’s Big Three of Fredo Romo, Tommy Wolfe and Robert Reyna combined for 47 of the Bearkats points.

"If we’re going to be successful in the playoffs we’re going to need to shoot better from the outside," Wolfe said.

Romo led all scorers with 20 points. Wolfe added 17 and Reyna dropped 10 points.
