On another board you asked the question, "What's a Bit"?
Well I went to a reliable source. MY GREAT- GREAT Aunt.
A bit is one dime and two pennies.
so the chant two bits, 4 bits, six bits a dollar is really aold monetary term.
2 Bits is a quarter
4 bits is a half Dollar

Thought you'd like to know.

My dad use to sing a song "shave and haircut 6 bits" or something like that. He told me 6 bits was 75 cents so your breakdown of the bit seems to agree with what my dad use to say. Havent thought of that in years.--thanks

Six bits (3rd quarter)
A dollar (4th quarter)

Shouldn't they change the 8-bits to a BYTE now? Since we use many bytes to post on this forum?

I am tired, http://bbs.3adownlow.com/ubb/eek.gif trying to wake up, have being staying up late posting... then rising early, geez I missed being out of work! Used to do the same thing, but at least then I could take some cat naps. Around 2:30, I keep looking under my desk thinking If I could only take a 15min nap! lol.

Yeah, he was able to switch shifts with a co-worker to 8-4 from 4-12, turns out his co-worker has a son playing jr high football, and plays in the morning so it worked out well for both of them.

I am so ready for the season to start, I just have to wait one extra day since it's Sat. and I know I will be real anxious on Friday, normally that happens during football Friday's, but I think it will be more this Friday having to wait another day, while everyone is having fun getting ready for the games, and then attending the games.

I am having a "taquito" this morning, But I am sure doesn't taste half as good as a Tortilla burger though.

Wow, wish I knew how to make wine, I have me a glass or two with supper sometime.

oh my god...I've been asking what the heck a BIT is ever since I was in Jr. High!...Still doesnt seem to make sense to me. if one bit is twelve cents then that would make a quarter 24 cents???

if four bits equal half a dollar then how the heck can you say that there are six bits a dollar? that doesnt make any sense. if four equals half then 8 should equal a whole...maybe there's something to this that im just not getting.

R13, I explained that already further up this thread. 8 bits is a dollar, not six. The cheer changes the last word to dollar instead of eight bits. 2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits, a dollar(8 bits), all for .....so on.

Footballgal, it's no secret at all. Basically it's any natural fruit or grape juice, sugar, and yeast. I've seen it made in a plastic milk jug. Throw the ingredients in and put a uninflated ballon over the top.
The ballon will inflate itself as the stuff ferments. After about 7 days, you can strain it and drink it. My method is a little more professional than that. I actually bought 5 gal glass containers and air traps and so forth. I age my stuff too. Check that thread again for a good book on the subject. The two by-products of the yeast reproduction process are carbon dioxide and alcohol. Thats what makes the fermentation work.
