Brent Mascheck, a Shiner graduate, has been selected as the athletic director and head football coach at Columbus.

Mascheck has worked as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Richmond Foster during the four seasons the school has been open.

Mascheck previously coached at Rosenberg Terry under current Foster head football coach Mark Wiatrek.

Mascheck was a member of Shiner's 1987 Class 2A state championship football team.

Althaus had an 18-24 record during his four seasons at Columbus and led the Cardinals to two playoff appearances before resigning earlier this year.

Althaus previously coached at Ganado.

In other coaching moves, Ryan Roark recently became the athletic director and head football coach at Needville.

Roark was previously an assistant at Cuero under Mickey Finley, and at Rice Consolidated under his brother Rusty.
