This great western is on the Western Channel (Channel 529 on Direct TV) and starts at 9:00 A.M. It is a great movie about greed for gold. The entire cast is very good with Glenn Ford as Jacob "Dutch" Walsh who discovers lost gold hidden on Superstitious Mountain in Arizona. It is based on a true story about Mexican Bandits who stole gold and hit it on the mountain in 1848 but were all killed off by Indians except for one of the brothers who escaped and came back in the late 1880s. The movie covers over a hundred years from 1848 to 1880s and modern day (at the time the movie was made) 1949. William Prince plays the grandson of Glenn Ford who tries to find the gold. The main cast Ida Lupino, Gib Young (later won oscar for They Shoot Horses Don't They in 1968), and of course Glenn Ford are in the 1880s flashback and all are dispicable villians. Appearing briefly in the flashbacks are Edgar Buchannan who is probably most famous as Uncle Joe in Petticoat Junction and the Sheriff in Dawn at Socorro and Arthur Hunnicut who was in many movies most famous as an illiterate hillbilly type and was with John Wayne in El Dorado. In the 1949 settings the sheriff is played by Paul Ford who appeared in many movies and the Phil Silvers show, Jay Silverheels as the deputy Walter who became famous as Tonto in the Lone Ranger Series, and Will Geer (later Grandfather Walton in The Waltons) as the greedy deputy Ray Covin who murders for gold. A great movie but the main interest is the 1880 events between the three main actors and what the greed for gold does to them. If you can watch this movie you should and if not then record it.
