I remember the good old Southwest Conference that won several national championships. When I kept up with it it had mostly Texas teams which consisted of UT, Texas A&M, SMU, Rice, Texas Tech, Baylor, Rice and later Houston. Arkansas was there too. I was sad when it was dropped but realized that it needed to be done because for one thing Arkansas dropped to go to the SEC and Texas lost a lot of recruits because the problem was that other schools could point out to recruits that since they were in Texas they would be playing Texas schools and not hardly ever travel and see the country and Texas was losing top recruits out of state even then and it was worse because they were not only going to OU but Michigan, ND and other schools. That is why it was necessary for UT and others to join the Big 12. Still in its' day it was a great conference and held its' own.

i loved the old SWC (minus Arkasas). That's when going to the Cotten Bowl was worth it. I saw A&M play Notre Dame the last time. Irish barely beat the Ags. Leland Mcelroy couldnt break away for that final play. but it was an amzing experience.

Cotton Bowl Jan 88--Tim Brown, Notre Dame, but I don't think he got ejected. I Might be wrong. the guy who took it was Warren Barhorst.
