Check ESPN or any sports station or website for more details to come. The game just ended. Baseball Tonight is coming on and should have details. I did not see the confrontation.

Sheffield, Fenway Fan Tangle

Add player-fan confrontation to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. Gary Sheffield tangled with a front-row fan at Fenway on Thursday night while chasing a ball in right field, prompting security to restore order in the eighth inning.

BOSTON -- New York Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield got into a brief scuffle with a fan at Fenway Park during Thursday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.

Sheffield was fielding Jason Varitek's two-run triple along the right-field fence in the eighth inning when a fan swung a short uppercut in his direction, appearing to graze the side of the slugger's face with his right arm.

After Sheffield picked up the ball, he shoved the fan before throwing the ball back into the infield. Then he whirled around with a cocked fist, but restrained himself and began shouting in the man's face.

Sheffield did not throw a punch at the fan, and a security official quickly jumped in to separate the two.

The fan should have been ejected and banned for at least the rest of the season if that is what happened.

What a deadbeat this fan must be.
First, throw the ball into the infield, Gary, then turn and bullrush the idiot.

And that guy in the Gap sweatshirt threw his beer (or whatever he was drinking) towards Gary...

I agree with Phil - the joker(s) should have been ejected and banned for the rest of the season... totally uncalled for...
