Lady Tigers clinch first with shutouts
RHS pounds Giddings, Smithville; is 2 wins from perfect 19AAA run

Waco has its Baylor Lady Bear hoopsters and Rockdale has its Lady Tiger softball team.
Big Blue is two wins away from a perfect District 19AAA campaign after two shutouts, a 7-0 win in Giddings on Friday and a 10-0 whipping of Smithville here Tuesday.
Coach Jessica Poole said RHS is benefitting from solid hitting (the team was averaging .280 before Tuesday night’s game), solid pitching, good team depth and aggressive base running.
“Everybody is contributing,” a happy Poole said Tuesday.
Tuesday’s win clinched first place for Big Blue. The final two regular-season games will be Friday at Cameron (5 and 7 p.m.) and at home against nemesis Caldwell and pitcher Brandi Crnkovik on Tuesday.
“We want to get a lot of fans out for that one,” Poole said. “One of our goals was to beat Caldwell twice.”
RHS moved up a notch to eighth in class 3A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll.
Sammie Meyer (8-1) kept Giddings off balance with 9 strikeouts in the 2-hitter. Caitlyn Luetge had an RBI single in the first and Katrina Deleon followed with an RBI single in the fourth. Sammie Meyer, Toni Ellis and Krystal Montelongo had RBIs in the sixth. Deleon added a second RBI in the seventh, as did Brandy Morgan on a line drive double to right.
Kaitlynne Schnerr also went 3 for 4 with a double.
Against Smithville, Laura Baker (9-2) fanned six through five innings. Offensively, Big Blue clicked again with 10 hits.
“We’ve got a solid lineup, top to bottom” Poole said. “That makes a difference when some of our opponents have weak spots in their lineups.”
Ellis started off with a single and Rockdale quickly had 2 on when Luetge walked. Schnerr had an RBI sac-fly to center, followed by an RBI grounder by Kylie Fatheree.
Big Blue scored seven in the third with RBIs from Caryn Bland, Ellis, Fatheree and Morgan, and Deleon. Schnerr added a double in the fifth and final inning.
JV—RHS junior varsity is now 11-4-2 overall (9-0-2 in district) after a 16-1 win over Smithville and competition in the Bastrop tournament. Giddings did not field a JV team due to injuries.
All team members got a hit in the win over Smithville, coach Tina Meadors said.
In the Bastrop tournament, RHS lost to Bastrop 7-6, beat Bowie High 5-4, lost to Victoria’s freshman and JV squads, then beat Lexington 10-1.

Great report! If you beat Wendy Weiss' team with Brandi C. pitching that is something to be proud of. What teams have to lost to and what 4As and 5As have you played and/or beat?
