Scott Savol, one of the remaining nine “American Idol” contestants, was once arrested for felony domestic violence, according to TheSmokingGun.com.
The Smoking Gun web site said Savol was arrested after roughing up his infant son's mother in February 2001.
There is no word from “Idol” representatives whether the incident will hurt Savol’s future in the competition. “Idol” dumped a finalist in 2003 for having a criminal record. It's not known whether “Idol” executives knew about Savol's previous record.
According to police, Savol, 28, was arrested following a confrontation with Michele Martin at the woman's Ohio home, The Smoking Gun said.
A Shaker Heights police report acquired by The Smoking Gun notes the unmarried couple had decided to "split up their living arrangement," with Savol scheduled to move his belongings out of Martin's mother's home, where the duo lived with their 3-week-old son Brandon. The police report said when Savol and his brother arrived at Martin's home, an argument ensued.
According to the police report, Martin was attempting to call 911 when Savol pulled a phone from her hand and threw it at Martin, striking her in the chest.
