Pierre Fleurinor had to make a decision the day after Wharton lost in the basketball playoffs.

Fleurinor had the option of running in a track meet or going on a recruiting visit to Texas A&M. Fleurinor decided to travel to College Station, and he has no doubt he made the right choice.

Fleurinor has made a commitment to attend Texas A&M on a football scholarship in the 2006-07 school year.

"I think Pierre has been getting more attention than Kellen (Heard) when he was a junior," Wharton athletic director and head football coach Russell Roberts said. "I asked Pierre if he was sure about his decision, and he told me he was."

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Fleurinor started at linebacker and running back for the Tigers last season. He overcame a slew of injuries to rush 90 times for 549 yards and six touchdowns. He had 105 tackles, including 66 solo stops, caused three fumbles and had two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Fleurinor was a first-team All-District 25-3A selection at running back and linebacker, and was a second-team selection at linebacker on the Advocate's all-area team.

Fleurinor was also a member of Wharton's Class 3A state-champion 1,600-meter relay team last year. He anchors all three Wharton relays this year.

Fleurinor will join Heard, who is currently participating in spring drills, at Texas A&M. Heard will play either on the offensive or defensive line. Terence Ward, who graduated from Wharton in 2004, has walked on at Texas A&M and is taking part in spring drills at wide receiver.

Roberts believes Fleurinor is likely to be moved to strong safety or free safety when he plays for the Aggies.

"We're probably playing him out of position," Roberts said. "But he just goes to the ball so fast. As a freshman, he was running over our linebackers, so we had to move him there to keep him from running over our linebackers."

Commitments cannot be made official until national signing day in 2006.

I thought we held their RB to 17 yards, 84?

I just know it was 11 yards net for the necks that night...

It didn't take Cuero linebacker Casey Harryman long to assess the Gobblers' defensive performance against Columbia.

"This is the best one we've had," Harryman said. "We prepared a lot for this. We were a lot more intense in practice this week."

Cuero's preparation paid off in a 21-7 Class 3A, Division I bi-district victory over Columbia on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The top-ranked Gobblers limited the Roughnecks to 11 yards of net rushing,

And didn't get across the 50 until the 4th...

wharton's relay teams will be there. i believe that wharton is tied for a record two strait mile relay titles. if they win this year then they will have a record 3 consecutive titles at the texas relays.

are the gobbler kids gonna be there?

Already have won three in a row(2002, 2003, 2004). Going for 4 in a row this year.

No doubt about it, the turkeys put it all over the Necks... The little tailback had like 25 yards or so. Took a lot a negatives at the qb position.(sacks, fumbles, and snafus). Once again, there was no doubt who the better team was on that night.

back to the wharton kid...
Good LB-er, still amazed how the sweeny kid gets all-state before the wharton kid?????

In my humble opinion, I think that the Sweeny kid is a BETTER LB. Yep, I said it. Fleurinor has much more ahletic ability, but he is not as good at the lb spot
