Bandera once again gets no recognition from AP. One honorable mention defensive lineman but yet they still have the state chamionship game this weekend. I don't understand it at all. We were 9-3 last year and had no one. The year before we were 11-3 state semifinalists and had 2 honorable mention guys. One of those was Andy Blount who had the best numbers in the state and should of been first team. The other was a linebacker who was about 50 or so tackles behind our other linebacker. Can somebody please explain to me why we get screwed every year.

AP All-State is for REGULAR SEASON ONLY!! THe Coaches Poll that comes out later considers postseason play!

Well, then I guess the question I should be asking is why is it for regular season only. The real stars who deserve all-state are the ones who step it up in post season play and show that they are the best!

I agree...it should be for entire season....but that is they way the AP has always done it. Liek i said....The THSCA All-State teams consider entire season.

Thats like in 2000 when Forney went to the Finals, they didnt have anyone in the AP Team but then when the THSCA Team came out they had a lot of them. Forney was 6-4 going into the playoffs.

The answer would probably be "that's the way it's always been". Personally, I like the coaches team put out later in the year, which does include playoff games. Frankly, there are so many deserving young men overlooked it's a shame, but voters have to draw a line somewhere! Remember, these teams are compiled by the same group that does the weekly rankings.

I have never seen such a bigger pile of crap in my life. Bandera Bulldogs, playing for the State Championship, with all kind of records, get's one(1) honorable mention candidate.

Boy this and all those polls should be thrown in the trash. Give me a break.

Jesus Christ get over it. Rankings and polls are crap anyway. There are plenty of teams on this poll that got recognition that didn't even get very far....China Spring, Elgin, Cameron, Rockdale and Groesbeck just to name a few. It's NOT about how well your team went, it's how get each INDIVIDUAL did.

Ok bulldog tell me anyone on banderas team that has better stats than anyone on the first team or second team. now u need to be quiet and get ready to play staurday and quit worrying about that.

Shipley is a great player and deserves to be on this team, but first team on offense and defense? I like to see other kids, seniors for sure, to get some recognition. There are just too many good players in 3A to not pass it around better than that. AP guys, decide where you like 'um best and give 'um that position 1st team, then give 2nd team or honorable mention for the other position.

Two things:
1. The reason the AP does this poll is simply for the regular season. Who stepped it up during the first nine or ten games? They don't care about who did what after that, they want to get it out as soon as possible (immediately before the D-II championship game). Face it, everyone does care about this stuff. I do, even though I sometimes hate to admit it. I love this stuff.
The coaches' poll, on the other hand, considers postseason play.

2. Pakrat, did you ever see Shipley play??? There are other good players in 3A, but that guy is simply a stud on both sides of the ball. The All-state poll doesn't make room for everyone like All-district picks... they just vote for who they THINK is the best, plain and simple. You are right, though, about a bunch of deserving people being left off. There's just so little room and so many outstanding players.

where is Joseph (red) Bryant

12-19-2002, 10:29 AM
Yes, I have seen Shipley play and I did say he deserves to be on this team. Personally, I prefer the coaches poll. Those guys have to study the players closer than the AP guys. But I am one of those guys that is somewhat skeptical of polls. They are only "good" if your favorite players are the chosen few. When it comes to 3A, I bet there are plenty of AP writers that never see a game played by the boys they don't vote for and probably havn't seen a game played by many of the ones they do vote for.

Once again the Polls favor those that are in closest proximity to Dallas-Fort Worth...Bandera is a long way from Dallas and all of the Pollesters and their Coaching friends! This is for adult politics not for youth recognition. Red Bryant and Jorrie Adams being shunned just shows what kind of politics is prevailent here in Texas!

I agree Old Card

Joseph Bryant from Jasper is one of the better players in the nation at 6'5" 315lbs. and had a heck of a year, but dont even make the all-state team? Jorrie is maybe the best OL in the country but gets 3rd team? The guys that made it in front of Bryant are like 170 lbs, to me thats pretty funny. All-state is supposed to be just that. The best in Texas. That just goes to show you how ignorant some that pick those teams actually are.

There are some awefully good players on here, but if I got the chance to play against that first team secondary I know right where I would attack. Three players from the same team that doesn't make it out of the first round - that's a joke - I don't care when they pick the team.

Actually, I believe they poll every newspaper in the state that's a member of the Associated Press. They all chime in on whom they think deserves the awards, put a finished list on the table and each one takes a vote. It is supposed to be unbiased, but of course sometimes you can't appreciate a player until you've seen him play. I believe there are over 30 newspapers affiliated with the AP across the state, so a lot of people get recognized.

theyoefnshow
12-19-2002, 12:48 PM
The Associated Press is just that. ASSOCIATED PRESS. Meaning yes, individuals from all over Texas have a say in this panel. Get over it, like someone else said, you don't like the poll unless "your team" is on it. Upset that Adams didn't make it? Maybe there were actually those more deserving than him. Considering Shipley made it both ways, I find it hard to believe that all the Dallas area people you accused of being biased had as much stroke as you think considering Burnet is next to Austin.

Another DFW conspiracy.....LOL

12-19-2002, 11:06 PM
Geezzzz...

DFW Conspiracy?! Let's face it... there are less than 50 spots picked on these things and just how many 3A schools playing each year???

207 according to Datapoll... If we do some quick math that is 22 x 207 = 4554 players across the state, (probably a low number considering more than 22 regular players per team on average across the state).

That means Pollsters have to look at 4500 kids and narrow it down to 50 spots or so. And the ONLY way you will be able to do that is look at numbers and stats.

Congrats to ALL football players for competing this year. Hope you do well in the rest of your HS careers and go on to good things...

To therealbulldogs;
I agree with you. Having played Bandera last week I feel Bandera should have AT LEAST one player on the list. My vote for Bandera would be Dutin Heep (sp). He was a load. Normally holding a back to about 100 yds is not a major accomplishment, but in this case it was.

I think the only REAL poll is the coaches poll. Let's see how that one turns out.

Go Bandera, we've got your back!

actually are.The "best" is not necessarily the "biggest". Heart and desire are attributes that SHOULD come into play in the voting. A guy with an NFL body that slinks across the field should not get the nod just because he looks more impressive in his uniform. It's a team game and I'll take 11 170 pounders that are hungry and have heart over your 11 300 pounders who want to do a dance after every play and see themselves on the replay screen and I'll kick your butt every time. Thus endeth the lesson.
