One of Bridge Citys great Cross Country team members is winning big at track also. Junior Aaron Brenner ran a 4:26.39 in the 1600 m at Nederland. Can he break below 4 minutes next year??? He is sub 2 minutes in the 800 m also. Of course the 3200 m is his best race because of his XCountry stamina but they just let his teammate Brad Heath win that one LOL. The XCountry quest looks good for next year with all the boys that will return next year that already have a State Championship under their belt.
These youth are looking hard at those scholarship offers. Looks like a lot of parents want have to pay all or a lot of BC assorted sports-youth to go to college LOL
I would like to see the BC youth attempt to win the 4 X 1600 and 4X 800 or even 4X 3200 record...They would have to set up an official timing event to try to set a record.

Solid runner, yes.
State Champion miler? possible.
Sub 4:00, highly unlikely.

In the event that he does end up sub 4:00, change my state champion answer to YES. :D

That's the all time best 5 in Texas. Although the BC runner still doesn't have one of the best 10 times in the state this year (4:12 by McPherson of Plano at last count) he probably does have one of the very best in 3A. A sub 4 minute is very, very unlikely.

Just for the history buff types.. Only 3 high school athletes have ever ran the mile under 4 mins. outdoors.

The first was Jim Ryun, who ran his first sub-4 in 1964, Tim Danielson in 1966, and Liquori the last to do it in 1967.

Last years best time in the nation was 4:07.

You are so right Hup. it would be next-to-impossible.... He has not majored in the 1600(kind of a secondary race thusfar); but still has approx. 14 months before he gets out of HS to try. Setting big goals are important to HS athletes. Had that team he is on(XCountry) not set a goal of winning all 7 top spots in the District XCountry, they might not have accomplished it. Had they not set a goal of winning the 3A State Championship XCountry meet by over 50 points they may not have accomplished that feat either. Had the BC JV team not set as a goal to come in second time-wise for the XCountry district unoffical second place, they too would not have accomplished it either.

Goals are important-- the Wright brothers would have just been good bicycle mechanics had they not set some major goals to be accomplished in their spare time LOL!;)

Heck why not shoot for the world record while he is at it..he is from BC after all.

J/K. Hope he runs a sub 4 min. mile that would truly be amazing.

Of course we are proud of Aaron and his friends(both boys and girls) they have paid a great price to excel--distance running is a fortitiude sport; its some skill and a lot of rigorous training, conditioning and hard work.
I would say at this point Barbers Hill is the best overall track and field programs in 3A...A lot of track programs are only sprint teams where little hard work, just natural ability, is involved. BH seems to have the most fleshed-out complete program that's competing in 3A at this time.

Go where the points are. Sounds like a X-Country coach that is bitter UIL went 4 X 200 relay instead of 4 X 800 relay...

Actually, I think UIL made track too sprint heavy with this move. Good balanced overall teams get washed out with 60 points available in sprint relays. (Yes, 4 X 400 is a sprint relay)
