Splendora is back on top aftering beating 4A power New Caney in their tournament in the championship game 8-3. New Caney beat The Woodlands 3-1 to advance to the championship game. Splendora also beat Santa Fe 6-0. In district action, Hardin-Jefferson beat Hamshire-Fannett 4-3, Orangefield blanked Anahuac 9-0 and Meagan Godwin crushed another homerun as Bridge City shut out West Orange-Stark 6-0. Tough week for Shepherd as they lost to nearby Huffman 17-5. Shepherd recovered to place second in their own tournament with wins over Grapeland 11-1, Corrigan 6-4 (8 innings) and Madisonville 3-1 before losing to Tarkington in the finals 8-2. Shepherd is 15-4-1 as Samantha Cummings is 11-3 and batting .509 with 5 home runs and 28 RBI's. Malina Meng is 3-1 and batting .480 and has 18 stolen bases. Here is what we have been up to so far. Monahans won poll games in the San Angelo Tourney against Sonora, Stephenville and Brady then beat San Angelo Lake View 12-6, San Angelo Central 2-1 and Colorado City 4-1 but finished second due to rainouts. Monahans opened district by blanking Seminole 14-0 and Ft. Stockton 11-0 to improve to 10-3 on the season. Bellville defeated Weimar 3-2 making their record 11-3 on the season. Kayla Schmidt led the offense going 3/3 on the night. It was freshman Courtney Peschel that got things going for Bellville in the 6th hitting a single to left field. She then took second before Adrienne Meier walked. Sophomore Lauren Luetge then put down a bunt moving the runners before Weimar over threw third letting 2 runs score. Rockdale is 4-0 in District 19 beating both Caldwell and LaGrange.
