After a relatively close call in Thurs-day's second tournament game against Breckenridge, Sweetwater was back to its dominant ways Friday as the Mus-tangs moved into Saturday's champion-ship game with a pair of easy wins at the Big Country Wood Bat Classic.

Sweetwater (7-0), the two-time de-fending champion, completed a four-game sweep in its pool by defeating Coahoma 7-1 in its afternoon game and blanking Lubbock Trinity Christian, 9-0, in the nightcap.

In the latter contest, junior Kendal Carrillo was nearly perfect on the mound. Carrillo pitched a six-inning no-hitter and struck out 15 with no walks. Carrillo fanned seven in a row and had a perfect game until Trinity Christian -- which lost for the first time in the tourney -- got runners to second and third in the fourth inning by taking advantage of a couple of errors and two passed balls, one coming on a third strike.

But Carrillo struck out the next hitter and picked off a runner at third base to end the inning. He then mowed down the final six hitters in order, with five strikeouts and a harmless ground ball.

Sweetwater had only four hits against Trinity Christian, but broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third by scoring five times on just two hits, both singles. The Mustangs took advantage of three errors, plus two walks, a hit batter and a passed ball to open a 5-0 lead.

Sweetwater made it 7-0 in the fourth on an RBI double by Carrillo that scored Shawn Kincaid, plus a passed ball that scored Carrillo. The final two runs in the sixth came on Louis Palacios' RBI single that brought in Carrillo and yet another passed ball to score Palacios.

The Mustangs pounded out 10 hits in Friday's opener against Coahoma. How-ever, Sweetwater led only 3-1 until scor-ing four times in the sixth.

Carrillo went 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles and two stolen bases, to pace the offense while Sonny Birdwell scored three times and had three stolen bases and Tripp Maxwell went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Birdwell started on the mound and he had a shutout until he was lifted in the fifth following two walks, a wild pitch and two passed balls allowed Coahoma to score its only run and cut the lead to 2-1. But Maxwell came on to get the next six outs in order, and he received credit for the victory.
