Greenwood Independent School District superintendent Glenn Barber named six finalists for the athletic director/head football coaching position at Greenwood High School.

The six coaches that were interviewed by the district were current Greenwood High School assistant principal Ariel Elliott, Breckenridge athletic director and head football coach Blake Feldt, former Greenwood assistant and current Lee defensive assistant Pat Liles, Ballinger athletic director and head football coach Mickey Owens, Ozona athletic director and head football coach Steve Taylor and current Greenwood assistant Jayme Tedder.

Barber said interviews began last week and were concluded on Wednesday, and said a six-person screening committee reviewed the applications and conducted the interviews. Barber and Greenwood High School principal Scott Knippa were members of the committee that also included two teachers and two parents.

A final decision on the coach could come at the March 14 school board meeting. Barber said he will take three names to the board with one having his recommendation.

Barber said the district received 27 applications for the post, adding all were from Texas. He said they had inquiries from coaches in states such as New Mexico, Colorado and Florida.

The search began in February, less than a month after long-time head coach Bob Purser announced he would resign at the end of this school year.
