ISLANDER BASEBALL PLAYS HOST TO NO. 25 OKLAHOMA STATE

(02/24/05)Series to be played Fairground Field

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team hosts Oklahoma State this weekend in a three-game series at Fairgrounds Field in Robstown. The Islanders enter the weekend with an 8-5 record, while Oklahoma State is 7-3 and ranked No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball News Top 25.

Friday’s game is at 7 p.m. with games at 2 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday. The cost for tickets is $6 for general admission and $4 for seniors (65-and-under) and youth (17-and-under).

“This is a very important series for us,” said A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Hector Salinas. “To have the chance to host a team like Oklahoma State is great opportunity. If we do well, it will bring quite a bit of prestige to our program and the school.”

Salinas knows his team will need to show consistency this weekend to have the success he desires.

“We’ve been up and down all season,” said Salinas. “We need to find some consistency. If we play they to our capabilities, we can have some success, but we have had a tendency to break down and teams have capitalized on that.

“We can no longer say we are a young program that is building. We need to go out and show we can meet the challenge that is ahead of us.”

Despite losing multiple key players from a season ago, Salinas knows that a program like the Cowboys reloads every year.

“They lost several top notch players from last season, but when you are a program that is established as Oklahoma State you have top talent year in and year out,” he said. “For Oklahoma State to be ranked 25th in the nation it obvious that they are a solid team.”

Salinas has his work cut out for him. i hope they win. but my question is how TAMCC got OSU to come play them in basketball and baseball in Corpus Christi. strange considering how OSU has powerful teams in both sports and nothing to gain from coming down here.
