Nobody faint.....I'm actually putting up a roundball thread for my own education. Who do you think are the best and most tradition rich high school basketball powers in Texas in all the classifications? What about the schools that don't play football?
Enlighten an old "footballer".

I would have to start with Ft. Worth Dunbar

In our area, 1A Port Aransas has always done well in basketball. I don't have any of their statistics. They are a school without a football program, but have always excelled in tennis and basketball.:)

Over near Weatherford you've got to throw in Brock and Peaster.
They've been 1A before but are now both 2A and are "basketball schools", meaning no football program. The Brock girls team is so good year in and year out they beat up on 4A and 5A teams.
Article this year in the Star-Telegram touted the Brock Lady Eagles as they beat Duncanville (5A) in a tournament.

Nazareth - man, I sure hated when they were in our district when I was in school.

Wimberley girls are always strong.

The Krum boys haven't had a "great" team since 1997-1998. They've really fallen off. And you can't go by that UIL website. Sure, those teams all hold records but records come in streaks.

Another strong girls program is Llano. Coach Jacquetta Brown has turned that team into a year-in, year-out title contender.

Rockdale Girls are pretty consistent.
Rockdale’s girls were in the playoffs every season from 1993 through 2000 and most of those years punched their tickets by finishing first.
Havelka’s Lady Tigers were district champs in 1993, area champions in 1994 and district champs in 1995.
Big Blue won bi-district titles in 1996 and 1997 and was district co-champion in 1998.
The 1999 team was a regional finalist and the 2000 squad captured another regional title.
Havelka started another streak last year with a bi-district championship and, of course, coached Big Blue into the playoffs this season.

I remember those Snook teams in 1A. Man,talk about domination. Under Coach Donnie Victorick (sp?),they won 7 straight Championships in a ROW!!! They ended up winning a total of 10. They had excellent coaching and great athletes for a 1A school. They were constantly beating teams two and three times their size. My freshman year in the mid 80's they played Hutto for the regional championship in San Marcos. Every single one of those guys could dunk including the water boys!!! In that game was the first time I saw a two handed over the head reverse dunk. My mouth just dropped to the floor!!! LOL!!! They killed us by 40 points!!!

Palestine has always been a East Texas powerhouse at the 4A level.

Moulton, in my area, is always in the playoffs, boys and girls. That's all the do there. They play year round.

I'd put my Gonzales Apaches in there. We've had a string from 1974 (State Champs) to 1995, we're we had 21 consecutive seasons of 20 win years. Even when we went 4A in 96-97, we won district and went two rounds into the playoffs. Until this year,(congrats Yoakum on having one hell of a team this year) we've won district every year. And every other year we make it down to regionals down in Kingsville where it always seems we run into West Oso. A year without at least a trip to Kingsville is a dissapointing year in Gonzales. We've broken through to the state tournament four times. We won it in 1974, but the last three times it seems we've run into some the greatest teams 3A has ever seen. We lost to the high-flying Sweeny Bulldog team of 1987. We lost the the three-pointer machine in form of the 1990 Lamesa Golden Tornadoes. And in 1993, we lost a heartbreaker to the Ferris Yellowjackets. Down by one with 2 seconds left, one of our kids shoots up a three, misses, but gets fouled. Three free throws coming, just need one to go to overtime, but the poor kid missed all three shots. He was a 90% FT shooter during the season. That one was tough.

Our greatest team, however, was the 2001 team that went 34-2 and beat 4A State champ San Antonio Lanier during the season. That team had some talent. The second string could have won state. The second string squad had young 6' 8" sophomore named Darryl Dora, who the other night, hit the game winning three for Texas Tech to beat 3rd ranked Kansas. Yeah, we was a second teamer. Anyways, we lost in good game down in Kingsville again to those pesky West Oso Bears.

Lanier lost to Beaumont Ozen in the state championship game in 2001. Ozen has had a pretty good run since the school started playing varsity sports.

I don't know about now, but back in the 80's Levelland had a great girls team. They sent us home empty handed a few times.
