Correct .... boy, did I just get an education. When you take the ticket in, there is an affidavit that you complete to request time to complete the driving safety course. You must have a valid tx driver's license, cannot have taken the course within the last 12 mos and you cannot have been exceeding the speed limit by 25 mph or more when you got the ticket.

You then have to sign the affidavit of eligibility in front of a notary and in San Patricio County submit a $95.00 administrative fee (money order). You then have 90 days to complete the course and provide a state certified copy of course completion to the court. The lady also mentioned needing a copy of your driving record from the DPS.

If you don't complete in 90 days, your subject to owing the difference between the $95.00 fee and the fine. She said it was important to know that you will get a STATE CERTIFIED (sealed) certificate of completion.

whew........:D

My daughter-in-law is the worst driver in Texas. She gets a ticket every other month. She told me the other day that you can take defensive driving MORE THAN once every twelve months as long as it is in a different county. So if you get a ticket in two counties, you can take defensive driving twice or more.

LOL...when I went down to the JP's office to ask all those questions she pointed out that some people try to pull that off but....that doesn't make it legal. She might just be getting lucky. On second thought, if she was really lucky she wouldn't be getting tickets so often. ;):)
