Forney starts fast, moves on with 52-22 win over Carthage

TYLER – Chance Corgan, who transferred from Plano in January, scored the game's first two touchdowns in less than two minutes to lead Forney (11-1) to a 52-22 win over Carthage in a Class 3A Division I Region II area-round playoff Thursday at Rose Stadium.
Forney, No. 2 in SportsDay's 3A-and-others area rankings and No. 5 in the Associated Press' state poll, meets Gainesville or Texarkana Liberty-Eylau next week.
Corgan's family moved to be closer to his father's work.
Corgan, who signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Texas A&M, made an impact on the first play. Caleb Hanie faked a handoff, then found Corgan for a 58-yard touchdown pass.
Corgan scored three plays later on defense. The safety corralled a tipped pass and returned it 44 yards. He almost completed the trifecta on special teams but was pushed out of bounds at the Carthage 15 on a kickoff return.
Baylen Laury scored on the play after Corgan's return. It was the first of three consecutive first-half touchdowns. He finished with 250 yards and four touchdowns.
