In a game that was equally important to the Rangers' district title hopes and Lamesa's postseason aspirations, the Golden Tornadoes won a thriller in front of a boisterous crowd to clinch at least a tie for the third playoff berth in the district.

"It's a tough place to play," Greenwood coach Justin Morett said. "This was good for us to experience a playoff atmosphere. I didn't do a very good job of getting our kids calmed down. I didn't use our timeouts very well and there were some set plays we could have run better."

The Rangers (18-11, 8-2 in district) led the back-and-forth affair for much of the fourth quarter after Andrew Zachry gave them a 39-37 lead with six minutes left.

Greenwood led 49-47 with six seconds remaining after a free throw by Ryan Beeler. But Lamesa's Salde Seal drove all the way to the opposite free-throw line and hit a 10-foot jumper to send the game to overtime.

The Golden Tornadoes (19-10, 8-3) broke a stalemate with 1:27 left in the first overtime, taking a 51-49 lead on a jumper by Seal. But Zachry's bank shot with 10 seconds to go tied the contest.

Lamesa scored the first five points of the second overtime, including a 3-pointer by Jordan Chapman.

Two free throws by Beeler tied the game at 57-57 with 51 seconds left before Lamesa took its final lead on Adam Salinas' fast break layup. The Rangers had two 3-point shots in the final 30 seconds, but neither fell.

"The kids did a great job," Morett said. "They did what they needed to do. The shots just didn't fall."

Salinas led Lamesa with a game-high 25 points, while Zachry led Greenwood with 19. Addison Stewart poured in 11 and Beeler contributed 10 for the Rangers.
