I know that Sinton posters know what this is... but does your school participate in this event?

We just took home the regional title by a 4600 point margin, and went away with 80+ medals... outscoring all but 1 team in our region, small medium and large schools...

i know people will wonder what it is.. so here ya go...

a team of 9 students
3a's -- Honors
3b's -- Scholastic
3c's -- Varsity
compete in a weekend competition of math, english, social science, history, music, speech, interview, essay, super quiz, and art. each possible score is 1000 points... you only compete with students of your same ranking. The competitions are written tests, except for the Speech, Interview, and Super Quiz (team portion).

If you have the chance, the State Finals for small schools (sinton's classification) will be in San Antonio next month, watch the super quiz... the amount of knowledge and preparation these kids have put into this is amazing.

My daughter was on the San Antonio MacArthur team in 1997, and competed at the state event at UT Arlington. The team from Katy won, but never did hear how they did at the national level. This kind of stuff is never publicized very much at all.

I don't know if they have it at the national level. I know Sinton won State for three straight years in the mid 90s but after State that was it. It may have changed now.

There is a national competition but only one team per state gets to go. It is invariably one of the large schools that represent Texas. It is figured on a team total from the respective championships. The largest total gets to represent the state.

in the houston area, New Caney HS dominates like crazy in decathlon. we (lamar consolidated HS) would get creamed by them. they are really good. i bet they are at state this yr for medium schools. macarthur used to have a girl on the team that won like 8 medals at regionals and a bunch at state in 2002. i dont remember her name.

As Phil said, Sinton did win the state championship in the small school division three years in a row. My daughter competed on the team for the first two.
