There was a team long time ago that was mainly a running team but when needed could throw passes. Many of the passes went for tds. A saying came about that "______ can't pass at all except for touchdowns." Name the school (the year isn't necessary).

1969 University of Texas??
Or perhaps the Nebraska teams of the mid-90s (Tommy Frazier)??

Good guesses but none are the answers. No need to give the year unless you want to because I am not even sure. Just name the school will be close enough for the WTG (Way to Go!).

No TM. Remember everyone that you do not have to get the years right just the name of the college.

That's a pretty vague trivia question there Phil. Your description could apply to several teams through the years. Your quote, was it said by a particular person about this team or is it a generalization that was not said by anyone in particular? If it is, could you give a little more info like national titles or bowl victories, etc.?

OK I will give a hint but you will get a correct instead of a way to go. This was a generally popular saying during the times. The hint is mid 1950s and this should be a giveaway now.

No. It must be harder than I though. I will give another hint but instead of Correct! you will now get that is right. The hint: Lloyd Taylor.

Texas A&M?

This question is burning a hole in me. I googled Lloyd Taylor and couldn't find anything, so here's a list of all the Heisman trophy winners and their schools from the 50's. I guess 'em all. :D

1959 Billy Cannon LSU HB
1958 Pete Dawkins Army HB
1957 John David Crow Texas A&M HB
1956 Paul Hornung Notre Dame QB
1955 Howard Cassady Ohio State HB
1954 Alan Ameche Wisconsin FB
1953 Johnny Lattner Notre Dame HB
1952 Billy Vessels Oklahoma HB
1951 Dick Kazmaier Princeton HB
1950 Vic Janowicz Ohio State HB

Right you are big. It was Texas A&M. They had a successful running team under Coach Bryant with Jack Pardee, Lloyd Taylor and of course John David Crow running. With that running game and great defense they didn't have to pass too much. But when they did they were able to pass when needed. They didn't pass much so they only completed about 30 passes the whole year. Some of the passes they would pitch to the halfback and he would stop and throw down the field to a wide open receiver. Nine of those passes went for tds which is about a third of the passes completed. Hence the saying: "A&M can't pass a lick except for touchdowns."
