I will confess that of the replies listed so far, I am the senior citizen. I see two bell curves developing: the 15-25 grouping (I was surprised to see so many too!) and the 35-45 group. What I will confess is that I went to Houston this month for grandson's 16th birthday, and his mom is 47, aunt 44 and uncle 34 so they would fit in fine.

I love the wine metaphor. As we used to say a few years back, "You're not getting older, baby; you're getting better.";)

Let me just close with a comment for those of you who are frustrated that your team has not yet "won the big one". I've been chasing Gilmer in playoff games since 1956. It only took 48 years!!!!!! but we did it in 2004:) :) :)

what i learned from this thread:

person under 20: "I'm 16, but i'll be 17 in 8 months"

person over 35: "I'm 39 but i was 38, 8 months ago."

note to the youth of this board. stay young as long as you can. being old isnt all it's cracked up to be.

i find it funny that after having to use fake id,s or being turned down for alcohol because of being uderage, when someone finally turns 21, they crave to be carded, they NEED to be carded to satisfy some "in your face" attitude of finally making it to the big league. so they step at the counter of the convenience store with a tall boy in hand, and never get asked for the id. the dissappointment cant be relieved until that person is carded for the first time. it happened to me and many people i know.:D

I have a sad, but true story. Years ago, when we still lived in Lubbock, the bars were really cracking down on checking id's & were instructed to check ALL, regardless of how old the person appeared. My husband & I went out with some friends - I was around 32 or 33 at the time. When we got to the door, the bouncer didn't ask for mine. I asked him if he didn't want to see it. He laughed and responded that if I insisted that he look at it he would. :(

56 but if you read my profile you would have been able to figure that out which is why I am just now confessing up. I thought I was the oldest one here but a few are even older so that burst my bubble because I was going to post something like the GodFather is the oldest one here so give him the highest of respect. :)

Anyway I can say to all of you that the best age to be is the age you are right now. Whether you are 9 or 99 or in between. Enjoy your age now. If you are 14 enjoy the things you do at your age. High school can be lots of fun. If you are 19 enjoy your college years. I can ramble on about other years but I am 56 years old and I enjoy life just as much now as I did as a younger man at 21 or 40. But enjoy life whatever it is whether it is fishing, hunting, watching tv, going to sports events like football, basketball, softball, soccer, etc, movies, church, etc. The time will go by fast enough but enjoy your period of time here (within reason of course).

You're right there, P44. I think the only "Domino's" boxes most young people know about are the ones that pizzas come in. I remember years ago watching some of my uncles play dominoes. It was so funny to watch---each one of them had been playing for so long that they knew what each other "held" in their hands and so they played with blinding speed and enthusiasm. One time a "new" guy asked to play with them. He didn't last more than about 5 minutes because they were all "fussing" at him so badly if he took more than about 5 seconds to "down". Lots of good memories there.

Phil C
02-02-2005, 11:24 AM
I never really developed an enthusiam for dominoes but I remember when I was a kid in the 50s before television really took off that my grandfather loved dominoes. On Sundays after church they would have the noon meal and then he would go to the lumber yard where a group of men would play dominoes most of the afternoon. If it was cold they would go inside. If it was hot they would move the tables outside to play. It was the highlight of their week I think but they really enjoyed it and were good.

Been gone a couple of days, but I agree with you Godfather, enjoy when you are while you are there. You will never be there again.

What I love about not being a teenager anymore is that I no longer have the angst of whether anyone will ever love me. Now I can say I've been there, done that.

Now I just wonder if this wet, cold low pressure front will ever MOVE OUT!!! Every winter I get to remember all those careless accidents of yesteryear.

But then I get to look forward to next year.

Hey Pirate remember that old dominoe house they had in Taft. I think the owner got some tables and chair in it years ago and they had members that would meet there regularly for years to play dominoes. I never went but I sure remember the building. I don't think they are active anymore and the building is probably vacant or torn down. There were some Sinton people that would go over there to play too. I think you got to it by turning right one block past the first red light going east through Taft and go two blocks blocks and it was on the right facing north.

More "old guy" lore, P44. One of my uncles had a very unusual "toothpick" made from part of a raccoon on his watch chain. That was real a real "status" item back in those days.

I think you got to it by turning right one block past the first red light going east through Taft and go two blocks blocks and it was on the right facing north.
i dont think i know of the place. when i worked out at Hartzendorf cotten gin, the place to play was Bill Schmit's place out there. When my dad was young, he's go to Vanecek's (i think that's the place)
