yea, and what about the 800m? that is a dead sprint for two laps!! it requires the perfect amount of speed and endurance to have any shot at placing.

The Pole Vault has got to be considered the hardest. With the exception of the High Jump most anybody can turn in a successful attempt at the other events although with mixed results.

Tough decision for me between pole vault and 300m hurdles.
I went with the hurdles due to the length and obstacles you have to hurdle over at a sprint.
Pole vault is a very, very close second IMO.

i am not sure if it is a dead sprint, but it is tough as he!!

i heard from a coach once explain how to run the 400. he said you have to run as fast as possible the first 100-125, then stride the next 75....next 100-125 sprint as hard as you can....last 100 hold on and keep going....you should be outta gas when you finish.

i understand what you are saying raider red, it jsut seemed like i had to be at a dead sprint to run the 800 to keep up w/ everyone else, because i was never much of a runner, but always more of a lifter.

I think the 800 is the most physically demanding event, with the 300 H coming in second.

Pole vault is not as physically strenuous, but is very hard technically speaking. It takes a very long time to develop the correct technique and muscle memory needed to clear high bars, and also requires a lot of patience.

well...i think pole-vault is the hardest...but it was the funnest for me

ive pole-vaulted, ran the quarter, the 200m, the 300m hurdles in middle school, and the 110 hurdles in middle school

i gotta say runnin 400m SUX, BUT hard is not the word for it cuz anyone can run 400m but w/ different times, Pole-Vaulting is hard to just have the technique and the consistency needed to compete...BUT!!! i loved it

I think the 200m is tough, I love to watch it. Those folks can FLY

I voted for the 300 meter hurdles, based on the choices given. Would have voted for the 800 meter dash if that had been one of the choices.

How is your daughter doing this year in vaulting, Bullfrog?

I don't have technique in pole vaulting that's for sure. The hardest is 300m hurdles.

That's another thing about PV, it's hard to get practice in off-season unless you belong to a club.

Poll vault is the toughest as far as technique etc. The 800 is the toughest race and it didn't even make your list.

I'm half with you in that I agree with you and the results so far that the 300M hurdles was the hardest. I was a track man of many years ago and ran the 800 (called 880 back then) and I thought it was easier than the 300M hurdles (I think it was called 330 back then). Of course bear in mind that I basically had an undistinguished track career. :)

Look, the hardest events in track are the Pole vault then the Discus then the shot put. those require the most technical knowlege and coordination by far. You never see a kid come in as a Jr and Sr and start those events and be very good. You can be very fast and start running track and be a great 400 meter guy. those events like the long jump and sprints or distance are not dificult. they are physicaly demanding but not dificult to do.

#1 Pole Vault
#2 Discus
#3 Shot Put
#4 High Jump
#5 Hurdles
#6 Triple jump

thats what ive been trying to tell them Black Magic...even though some events may really SUCK cuz they make u outta breath, they aren't difficult to do, u just run or jump, u might have a sucky time, but c'mon guys really....its hard to use a 13-15ft pole and run w/ it then plant it, then kick up, go upside down, then twist right and all this other stuff, it takes good reflexes and good ab muslces along w/ the facing the fact that ur upside down on a pole that can snap 14 feet above ground

ill make a deal...anybody who wants to argue that the 400m is harder...ill go run a quarter right now and complete on the FIRST TRY, and i want someone w/ no vaulting experience to go pole vault and see how they do first try, most ppl chicken out first try and stop running once they get to where they should plant their poles

Coming from a seasoned veteran (7th AND 8th grade to be exact), the 300m hurdles is by far the most demanding event. I ran the 110m hurdles, the 300m hurdles, and I pole vaulted (mind you, the only event I was halfway descent at was the 110's). Pole vaulting is hard to get the technique down, but tryin to time your steps in the 300 hurdles is darn near impossible. not to mention that 300 meters feels like at least double that distance!

i did the 300 hurdles too in 7th grade. yes it sux...but its not more difficult...i mean about 99% of the ppl who start the race finish it whether first or last, but several ppl cant complete one vault

The hardest event in Track and Field has got to be watching it from the stands....what a bore.

Well, I have to wait until basketball is over until I start jumping again, but I have been able to go down and throw some shot put before basketball practice after school every day. I keep forgetting to bring my discus to school so I can throw some of that, too.

I'll go with the 300 IH. My son ran that event last year and I know it is a very tough race. Can't even imagine that they run 400 hurdles in college.

No way could I even pick up a pole and clear even 8 ft in 3 trys.... niether can 95% of these people who think the 400 or the 300 int hurdles are the hardest. its a no brainer. Heck I cant think of a single sport or event in ALL of sports as hard as the pole vault.

oh well

BM I will time you in the 400 we are not talking about a 2 minute 400 meters. I can go out and pole vault 6 feet right now without the mats ao there,
