Hey what is going on down in Jasper. Rated good early then kind of fell apart is it a tough schedule or just not in a groove yet?

We lost the first game to a probable 4A playoff team and won the next two easily over 4A competition without our starting RB. I would hardly say that the Bulldogs are falling apart, but they're not at the level we're used to. That happens when you lose 35+ seniors from one year to the next.

Beat 5A Clear Brook 17-0
Lost to 4A Bay City 13-28
Beat 4A Waller 27-14

Their leading russher has 37 carries for 230 yards
theri leading passer has 25 attempts for 196 yards

Strake Jesuit has some great expectations

Strake Jesuit and its coaches have a lot to look forward to this season.
With two of his seniors already committed to colleges and another on everyone's
watch list, coach Ron Counter isn't just hoping to win games this year -- he's
expecting to.

"Things are really shaping up for us so far," said Counter, who is starting
his fifth season as head coach at Strake Jesuit. "These are such special players
who everyone wants to get their hands on. With schools already committing (some)
of them, we'd better win some games."

With the Crusaders' leading rusher, receiver and defensive back, Chris Ogabonnaya,
having committed to Texas and the team's top offensive lineman, Ben Lemming, sealing
the deal with North Carolina, this season not only looks promising for the coaches but
will be a chance for those seniors to enjoy their final year without pressure to
impress college scouts.

"When I committed to Texas, I could feel myself relax about the game almost
immediately," said Ogabonnaya, who will play quarterback for the Crusaders for the
first time since his freshman year but will play wide receiver for the Longhorns.
"This is my last year, so I can make it my best. I plan on pushing it to the limit.
That's what I feel like I owe my coaches, who have done so much for me. And I want to
show the younger players the ropes and leave an indelible mark of leadership and
confidence on this team."

This will be Strake Jesuit's last season as an independent; the Crusaders will
compete in District 19-5A starting in the 2004-05 season. Strake Jesuit's lack of
depth is perceived as the team's biggest weakness as it prepares to compete against
larger 5A schools such as Elsik and Hastings next year. With that in mind, Counter
realizes the need to strengthen his players' confidence in all aspects of the game
this season. Confidence is one thing Luke Juist has plenty of.

The 6-1, 185-pound kicker is a scoring machine for the Crusaders -- he had all the
team's points in a 9-7 win over Waller last Sept. 20 -- and his teammates know the
heavily recruited kicker can be counted on to split the uprights from just about anywhere.

"We know if Luke gets the ball, we're going to score points," Ogabonnaya said.
"He's so confident. He has such a vital position and is the gem on the team. He'll
make whatever college he goes to very happy."

So as Strake Jesuit looks forward to new beginnings, Counter and Co. will aim for
one last stellar season as an independent before moving on.

"When I watch the likes of Chris and Luke, who are (two of) the best players I
have coached, I get excited about what is in store for them as well as our team,"
Counter said. "Luke kicked a 57-yard field goal in our spring game. That's so unusual
for high school, but it just shows the drive that these kids have. They're such talented
and fantastic players."

IF Jasper plays without Marlon, I hate to admit it, but I think the edge goes to Strake. Judging by all the early college committals, it looks like they have lots of talent. But still, I believe the game could go either way, though and that winner will only win by 1-2 scores.

Him missing for that long would about be like Warren Sapp coming back after missing 5 weeks. He is probally going to be out of shape this game but he will probally get most of it back by district. I think Strake will win this on though.

As someone who saw last year's game, I cannot be very confident that Jasper will win. Our starting QB was injured, so we played the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string QB's, one off which is this year's starting QB. He was very young and inexperienced and totally ineffective. We will see how much he has improved. Also, Strake had big, big boys. If they are still as big, we will not match up with them. It will look like a college against a very small high school. Strake knows what worked against us last year. If we stay in a spread offense, and the QB cannot execute, and we don't change our game plan to fit what is happening on the field, obviously we will lose. Having said all that, I know we have good athletes and the will to win. I'm sure our coaches have prepared, so lets hope for the best. Come On Dogs, give us 4 quarters of domination!

Strake is 2-2, and are a very young team like ours. I don't think we can compare this years game by what happen last year. They are both total different teams.

Game Notes: The Bulldogs hope history doesn't repeat itself. This time last season, Jasper was steadily climbing the Class 3A polls before they were ambushed 14-6 at Houston Strake Jesuit.

You Can't ran without our passing game working in the type of Off. we run.Yeah, Jasper has almost always been a running team and that has really hurt us when we got in the playoffs. You HAVE to be able to spread that defense out. Our coaches really need to work on building a passing game starting in the 8th and 9th grades. That way, you can build some experience for some players passing/catching the ball.

FB, It's not hard. YOu just find a picture on the web you like, right click on it (if you're using Explorer) and then click properties.
