EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Randy Moss was fined $10,000 Thursday by the NFL for pretending to pull down his pants and moon the Green Bay crowd during Minnesota's playoff win last weekend.

Peter Hadhazy, the league's director of game operations, penalized Moss for unsportsmanlike conduct in a letter that the NFL released.

``Your actions were based on poor judgment, did not reflect well on you or the Vikings, and were insulting to many,'' Hadhazy wrote.

``They have resulted in widespread criticism and needlessly detracted from Minnesota's dramatic playoff victory. Fans should look to you and your teammates to see how to compete and win in football. But when you lose your focus on playing and engage in sideshows as you did on Sunday, you forfeit much of this,'' he wrote.

Moss also briefly bumped the goalpost with his back end before hugging teammates in the end zone following his fourth-quarter touchdown catch that clinched the Vikings' 31-17 victory.

League rules mandate discipline for ``obscene gestures or other actions construed as being in poor taste.'' A fine for the first offense under those guidelines is $5,000.

Moss hasn't previously been fined for such an action, but he paid a $25,000 penalty in 1999 for squirting an official with a water bottle.

His agent, Dante DiTrapano, said the fine was unnecessary.

``If you can't have freedom of expression on the football field, come on,'' DiTrapano said.

I don't know what his salary is, but if it's $4 Million, then $10,000 is the same percentage as $250 is to someone bringing in a Hundred Grand a year.

Once again it all comes down to character...and Randy Moss has consistantly shown that he has none. I think his team should've fined him for walking out on them the week before.

I think he should have got fined as much as Lynche's hit on the Colts tight end. Lynche's hit was not even on purpose. Forgive me on the spelling on John's name

What Moss did was wrong and he is classless, but to say he should've gotten Lynch's fine might be a little extreme. However, I don't think Lynch should've gotten the fine he did. I think it was reactive to the Donavan Darius hit, and the fact that it could've seriously injured Clark like the hit that injured Ferguson.

Moss was on ESPN and was laughing at the fine. It would be like most of us having to pay 50 cents for parking in a tow zone. Now if the fine had been something like $150,000 then he probably ouldn't have been laughing.

should the vikings trade him since he is such a distraction? and what could they get for him? I read an article that said they would entertain offers in the off season. but would not shop him around. I was thinking they could just send him to philly with TO that would be a match made in heaven! those two could battle for all the media's attition.

ROFL! Keith would probably love that, since the Eagles are his team. :D

This is retarded. It's not like he pulled his pants down. His motive is simply mocking what the Green Bay fans do to other teams except they actually show their asses! Football is about having fun and that's what the guy was doing. The Vikings won't trade him because they know he is an integral part of their offense. It's like taking Vick away from Atlanta. Won't happen. Moss will probably have friggin fans send him the money to cover the stupid fine.
