this noble flower

I stand in line,
silently,
and remember them.
the poppy pinned to my chest,
its flowers like the blood that flowed,
the bullet wounds on their chests,
echoed in this flower on mine,
I remember them.
this small act,
is all that I can do,
to bring back the dead,
as I remember them.
They died for me,
and I live in their debt.
