Aggie Pretenders?

the ESPN basketball guys were talking about who was contenders and who was pretenders so far in this basketball season. they spoke of aTm & their 10-0 record and noted they were 10-0 with a strength of schedule that ranked 329 out of 330. they labeled them as PRETENDERS.

but, based on where the aTm hoops program has been they NEED wins so if the schedule is not up to par (yet) then so be it .... besides, they have a starting guard who was my son's roomie for a year at UTD so i'm pullin' for 'em (to a point)

Nope. They have away games till the 12 of Jan. when they will play Texas at home in Aggieland!

we meant all games in their 10-0 start (plus 2 exhibitions) have been at home - - - - first AWAY game is @ Penn St on Jan 2

if it takes scheduling some weaker teams to get the students and fans interested, and to get the program going, then im down with that. i think the new coach there is going to have us in great shape in a couple years. (so then i can enjoy it when i get there)

A&M's schedule is ridiculous...some D2 teams have a tougher schedule than that...there is no way that schedule can remotely get them ready for big 12 play, i wouldnt be shocked if A&M goes winless again....

for comparision with another not so great bball team look at baylor's schedule...they play D1 opponents away from home and only have 6 scholarship players...there is no excuse for A&M to schedule easier than a team that has less players than them...

I went to A&M, and I can tell you from personal experience if they have to schedule 8th grade "B" teams to get their confidence up then so be it. They've only been to the NCAA Tourney once...ever to my knowledge. I believe they've only qualified for the NIT TWICE! We easily have the worst basketball program in DI historically. I think they are pretenders this year, but I do believe they will show improvement over year's past.

At least in basketball you can schedule some "lesser" teams and it doesn't hurt you in the long run. You've still got a shot at the big dance.
