I don't believe Burnet will drop back down. Their enrollment should only continue to increase. Unless the UIL bumps up the enrollment figure for 3A, Burnet won't be back in my opinion.

They may drop, but the core of talent they had, you only get those type of Atheletes once every decade or two! The programs of yesterday will not dominate tomorrow, talent pools hit different towns, and cities Look for the Marlin, Burnet, Bellville, Gainsville,Decatur,Jasper,Forney,Everman,Gilmer, 's to all have a drop in talent, it's just what happens.

Jasper has had some bumps in talent, but have not had a drop in talent in almost 25 years. May happen tomorrow, but I personally will take my chances with Moye for 2 more years.

Sounds like a topic for this time next year. My thought is its kind of like talking about what your gonna do after you win the lottery. Wait til it happens then plan.

Burnet not liking that 4A battle? Jasper and Silsbee know about it all too well, and we still faired very well over a long time. I don't think any of us will be looking forward to jumping back up though :D

Forney's drop in talent happened this year. They will be in the running for atleast 2nd in district next year.

Ok, here are my thoughts on the subject. When the count was taken for the last aliegnment, Burnet was counted as having 947 students. When classes started this year the count was 907, including the Quest school. From what I hear, the growth has slowed down in the Burnet area. There are questions about why the Quest school is not counted as another school within the Burnet Consolidated School District, instead of being part of Burnet High School. Quest is a great program for kids that have problems that would prevent them from recieving a High School Degree. I believe it is a very important school, kind of a "last chance" for a lot of kids. But, as I understand it, the kids that go to Quest come fron Burnet, Llano, Lampasas and Marble Falls school districts. They are not eligible to participate in sports, band, or other extra ciricular activities in Burnet High School. They are at a totally separate campus and do not graduate with the Burnet High School Seniors. I personally don't understand why they are counted as part of the Burnet High School student body. Basicly, with out the Quest enrollment, Burnet was under the 900 student mark this year. Based on everything I have seen and heard, I think that unless the numbers are changed next time around, there is a very good chance that Burnet will drop back to 3A.

As far as the drop of talent, as we all know, Burnet did lose some real talent after 2003, but is still loaded with pleanty of talent in the pipeline. In 2004 they managed to beat Marlin and Llano in scrimages (I know, they were just scrimages, but Burnet was able to keep both teams from scoring, while they scored 2 or 3 times against each team), Burnet was able to beat a very good Liberty Hill team in pre district, yes, it was by 1 point, but not a bad win, considering Liberty Hills streangth and the fact that our starting QB was knocked out with a broken arm the week before and our Soph. back up QB was starting his first Varsity game. Burnet then went on to beat their first 5A opponent, Westwood, lost to 5A San Marcos, then beat 6 of the 8 4A oponents in preseason and district play, including a win in a 4 OT game against a very strong New Branfels Canyon team. They made it to the first round of the playoffs and lost a very close game to Kerville Tivy. There is no doubt in my mind that if Burnet had still been 3A this year, they would have advanced much further into the playoffs.

Burnet can and will compete in 4A, but I personally like 3A football better. It just feels more like small town football to me. We will see what happens next time around. Who knows for sure. I don't think the Burnet Coaches are going to spend much time thinking about it one way or the other. Their gonna be busy, regardless of wether its 3A or 4A.:D

Cbed, you called the margin almost on the head, DARN IT! :(

But about any drop off in Jasper talent, after watching all the Jasper soph's and even freshmen playing Saturday night, I don't think you are going to realize that drop off in the next two years! :)

it all depends on the cutoff....however unless a 6A happens....which won't happen this realignment the 3A/4A cut will likely raise up more......thus many small 4A's could see a drop to 3A...ie Burnet, Stephenville, and many other small 4A's......you could see the 3A/4A cut be around 950 or so.....as more and more new schools in the suburbs keep being built....

some towns just seem to have a pipeline and are consistent winners.....some towns have a couple of good groups and then the talent dops off...and then 5 to 10 years later it spikes again.....I think my school Everman is one that seems to be a consistent winner....luckily.....I'd throw Jasper, Marlin and a few others in that mix...EHS has been a consistent winner the past 25 or so years..

Everman's record since 1979

1979 (4A) 7-2-1
1980 (4A) 9-1
1981 (4A) 7-3
1982 (4A) 4-5-1
1983 (4A) 7-3
1984 (4A) 10-1
1985 (4A) 8-2
1986 (4A) 10-1
1987 (4A) 10-2
1988 (4A) 9-2-1
1989 (4A) 6-3-1
1990 (4A) 4-5-1
1991 (4A) 7-4-2
1992 (4A) 8-2
1993 (4A) 7-3
1994 (4A) 7-3
1995 (4A) 8-3-1
1996 (4A) 3-7
1997 (4A) 8-2
1998 (4A) 3-7
1999 (4A) 8-4
2000 (3A) 12-2
2001 (3A) 15-0
2002 (3A) 14-1
2003 (3A) 9-3
2004 (4A) 9-3

I'd be interested in some other schools histories to see just how consistent they are over a period of time

I don't think Jasper will go back up to 4A anytime soon...only if more industry comes into town, don't expect the enrollment to spike. A lot of businesses and paper mills have closed in this area...I find it strange that we have about 3,000 more residents than Livingston but they have 1612 students in the high school while Jasper has 850 but Livingston is kind of a gateway out of Houston...

Hey, I'm just saying we're not looking fwd to your 3a return. Stay in 4a and establish your dominance there. I think most people would say we were dominant in our own right in 4a despite no championship. Consider it an even trade for dominance in classes. :D

Yea bring on Burnet!! To be the best you have to beat the best and a great and strong program like Burnet is welcome in 3A.

Personally I would like to see a week 0 game between Jasper and Burnet at a neutral site what a game that would be!!

Good point!
Having better overall competition is what makes each region better. Sinton, Cuero, West Columbia, Wimberley, Wharton AND Burnet all playing in the big school bracket?
I would love to see WOS vs Burnet/Cuero in the big school bracket and Sinton vs Jasper go small school. Oh well, I can dream...
