I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I saw where coach Alvarez's name has come up among others for the head coaching job at Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Have you guys heard anything on this?

Alvarez will be at Kirbyville for at least one more year. He has some unfinished business that he wants to take care of.

Good time to make a move after a fantastic season. Might even be some money in it. LCM had an enrollment last year of 3699, Kirbyville was 1598. 3a to 4a. Looks like a smart move for a family man. College is coming soon around his house.

Does anyone know who else could be a finalist for the LCM job besides Alvarez?

Seems like a prime job for the right guy.

3699 obviously cannot be right - at least not for grades 9-12. that would make them one of the 10 largest schools in the state (or close to it). also Kirbyville reported 483 for grades 9-12 a year ago - talk about growth !!!!!!!!!!!!!

School enrollment. Right off of the TEA site. LCM = 4A Kirbyville = 3A

1699 maybe, not 3699 - gotta be a typo don't ya think ??? either that or its for all 12 grades ....

FYI those enrollment numbers ARE for the entire ISD .............

Since everybody has such a problem understanding school enrollment, here is the 2004-2005 UIL enrollment. Kirbyville 483, LCM 1152. Doesn't specify whether it is high school only or district totals, but you can use your best guess based on the previous TEA number I posted, or you can try to visualize the fact that LCM is over 70% bigger than Kirbyville. Since 3A runs from 390-899 and 4A runs from 900-1,924, it was fairly obvious that I was referring to school size rather than high school enrollment. But, let's all make sure we nit pick rather than discuss the original topic. I still say that it would be a good move for Alverez!

He has some bitness to take care of this upcoming season. But all in all I see what you're saying and yes if he moved on it would be a good career move.

the #s on the UIL site are for grades 9-12 unless the school doesnt have all 4 grades, then it counts the feeder schools ...

everybody does not have a problem understanding school enrollment ..... its just that 99.99% of the time when "enrollment" is used on this board it refers to the HS and not the ISD.

I agree - it would seem to be a good move!

Happy Holidays!

Lets say that Alvarez is hired at LCM. Do think Kirbyville would choose a coach from inside the system or hire a coach from somewhere else? If they were to hire from within the system then who do you think would be the best choice?

I'd like to see Lucky Gamble come to K-ville. :) If they hire inside I look for Brian Barbay to take the job. Just an early guess.

The only difference from this year versus next is Jasper will be the higher seed in D2. Jasper and Silsbee will be deciding the championship in the last week once again.

If you can't win in 4A move on down to 3A and if you can't win in DI move on down to DII.---------So now do you move down to 2A.

So Silsbee destroyed the Wildcats and lost to Palestine a team that made it the semis in D1 and Silsbee is the weak team here? Silsbee's attendence is actually lower this year than last when they dropped to 3A so I wouldn't expect a return to 4A. I had always viewed Silsbee's biggest rival as Jasper. After watching how Kirbyville boasted of beating Jasper slagged the bulldog fans and then whined how they were "cheated" in Silsbee, I now support Jasper. Silsbee and Jasper both return a solid group of skill players. The 3 top teams will still be the top teams unless Kirbyville drops the ball.
