Lienhart is overrated. He only looks good against the PAC 10. He is gonna get lit up like a chicken truck when they play OU.

As a leader I'm not real sure but from what I've seen I'd say he's a better leader than what the 'Boys have right now.

It may be best in the long run but for this year's purpose Dallas made a mistake in letting Quincy Carter go. :(

He'll be a free agent. There was an article in the Dallas Morning News about the qb situation.

Dallas Morning News
Who will be QB? No snap decisions for next season

01:41 PM CST on Wednesday, December 15, 2004

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – Vinny Testaverde is 41 years old. Drew Henson has thrown 18 passes as a pro and started just nine games since high school. Tony Romo has yet to throw a pass in his brief career with the Cowboys.

The Cowboys' quarterback picture seems as muddled as it was the day Troy Aikman retired following the 2000 season.

"I have a lot of consternation," coach Bill Parcells said of the quarterback spot.

What will the Cowboys do to shore up the most important piece of the team entering 2005?

Parcells mentioned the possibility of sending Henson and Romo to NFL Europe to give them game experience, but that would leave the Cowboys without either of their top quarterbacks to work in the off-season program and mini-camp.

The free-agent quarterback carousel has only two names worth mentioning – San Diego's Drew Brees and Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck – but teams do not let quarterbacks reach the open market.

Brees will probably be named the Chargers' franchise player, which would pay him the average salary of the five top-paid NFL quarterbacks. To get him, the Cowboys would have to give up draft picks.

Hasselbeck is interesting. His father, Don, was a tight end for Parcells, and Parcells knows Hasselbeck's temperament. But the Seahawks could decide to keep Hasselbeck, making the discussion moot.

"I certainly know that we're going to need a young quarterback here," Parcells said. "There's no doubt in my mind."

That would seem to eliminate any chance of the Cowboys' snagging Brad Johnson, Brian Griese or Jon Kitna, any of whom could be available through a trade or free agency. If the Cowboys want to bring in a veteran, Testaverde would make the most sense because of his familiarity with Parcells, although the two have yet to talk about 2005.

Drafting a quarterback would be a reach because whoever was selected would be even less tested than Henson and Romo. Unless Southern Cal's Matt Leinart or California's Aaron Rodgers comes out early, it will be an unspectacular draft class headed by Purdue's Kyle Orton and Connecticut's Dan Orlovsky.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in training camp that Quincy Carter was not the quarterback of the future even if Carter remained with the Cowboys in 2004.

That leaves Henson and Romo.

A loss Sunday at Philadelphia could bring the true beginning of the Henson era. Many thought it would start on Thanksgiving against Chicago, but Parcells replaced him at halftime.

"I don't think it necessarily has to come in a game," Henson said of gaining experience. "When I come back in March for the off-season program the second time through, it's a night-and-day difference on how your mind-set is. ... Everything I've done the second time, I've felt so much better."

Henson said that if he doesn't play any more this year, he will still prepare as best he can during the off-season. That includes breaking down the season play by play, studying quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, throwing to wide receivers and working with offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon and assistant head coach Sean Payton.

Romo is anxious but believes the preseason work – 24-of-39, 250 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions – helped him be prepared to play in the regular season, whenever that happens. Working with Testaverde, especially in film sessions, has been a greater benefit.

"It's not totally like I haven't stepped on the field," Romo said. "I feel like I'm a smart quarterback. As long as you just don't go brain dead, I feel like I can be all right."

Parcells has committed to Testaverde at least through Sunday largely because of the exotic blitz schemes drawn up by Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson.

"Right now, it would not be a good experience" for a young quarterback, Parcells said. "I don't want to argue the point because that's my opinion."

The Cowboys' Dec. 26 foe, Washington, has a better defense than Philadelphia's. The final game of the year is at Giants Stadium, where Parcells knows the weather can be less than ideal for a quarterback.

While acknowledging that there might not be a perfect scenario to start a young quarterback, Parcells is protective.

"They can have ... [experiences] that can damage them pretty seriously," Parcells said. "They could have that. OK? Everybody says that's just growing pains."

Growing pains the Cowboys can go through now or later with Henson, Romo or somebody else. Take your pick.

ROUND AND ROUND

Since Troy Aikman retired following the 2000 season Anthony Wright, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoerner, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde and Drew Henson have started at least one game for the Cowboys. Who will be the starter in 2005? A look at the candidates. * * * * – Most likely. * – Least likely. Rankings by Staff Writer Todd Archer.)

Drew Henson * * * *

He should enter as the leader in the clubhouse but he will remain a work in progress.

Tony Romo * * *

He intrigues Bill Parcells with his moxie but, like Henson, is largely untested.

Vinny Testaverde * * *

He knows Parcells, the system and the offensive players. Don't rule out his return.

Matt Hasselbeck * *

The Seahawks could make him their franchise player, but they have a lot of other decisions to make.

Drew Brees *

Even with Philip Rivers, the Chargers will not let him walk into free agency without the franchise tag.

A draft pick *

Parcells only plays quarterbacks he trusts. How could he trust a rookie?

Another veteran *

There is not much to choose from, especially in the under-30 crowd.

htown wins!! granted we made a bad bears offense look bad, we still played well on defense. Dunta Robinson for defensive rookie of year. looks like we have a good chance of being 8-8. (if we beat jax on road)
