I have a few problems with this team. The first one being that Wylies Jared Robertson was not anywhere on this team. He is THE BEST DL in the state. Unblockable. Ask anyone that watched him play or any of the kids on here that had to try and detain him.

Cuero obviously didn't get too many looks in the regular season. We will see if we do any better when the all state team comes out that takes into account all of the playoffs. One second team and three honorable mention for the state finalist. I guess maybe this does prove what I said. We were a team of no superstars.

I'll agree with the Jared Robertson homer post. He was unblockable against Cuero. Remember this team is for the first ten games of the season. Wylie didn't get a lot of looks in the first ten games. The next team should be kinder to both Wylie and Cuero.

Yeah not many Cuero kids on the team for a team that was undefeated all season. Maybe the Cuero coach just doesnt fudge stats like some schools do.

all-state team is ALWAYS controversial by nature

proud to see the 3 Royse City players listed (1 first team, 2 H.M.)
but I CANNOT believe that James Mapps is not on here somewhere. I know the problem....is he a QB or an RB? Rushing for 2488yds. as a QB should get him listed somewhere. The VanAlstyne QB gets hon. mention and the RC QB gets nothing? Give me a break.

Congrats to Ryan & Chris for making First Team and to Casey and Tony for Honorable Mention. Ryan & Tony, you will definitely be missed. Just know that you were a part of a great team for several years & have helped, with your leadership, establish great teams for years to come.

Also congrats to the other members from district 27-3a and other districts.

Mapps is a force. I think you hit it right on the head with the out of position thing. Hes great. II am glad that holliness (sp) made it. He was a good back and a even better blocker.

That why we probably didn't see James Mapps or Stephen Hodge or the MLB from Abilene Wylie ...

Well, here goes. I'm gonna be a big homer, but I can't believe that Swenson or Duggins from IP did not make honerable mention.

Absolute joke!

Not only that, not a single player from district 5-3A made the list.

He's overrated...I was at the Cuero game and the only thing that made him "unblockable" was that he lined up in the gap and got a good jump on the ball. Misread the snap twice and got caught offsides....to be honest with you I haven't seen a truly dominant D-lineman all year. Last year Kellen Heard of Wharton...that's unblockable...he was prolly the only DL in the state that could control a game, but that was last year...

this is false in my opinion...i've been to every wylie this year...seen them play good teams...jared is definitely one of the best d-lineman in the state...lining up in the gap+making a good jump on the ball=a good defensive lineman

i also think a couple other players from the wylie team deserved to be at least honorable mention...austin sayre, michael kiger, and josh poorman

anyways who cares it's all for show anyways the only thing that matters is who's going to be wearing the bling bling:D

congrats to all the players who made the list

larvell roy showed in the playoffs that he's better than everybody. casey harryman showed in the playoffs that he's better than everyone. matt schumacher showed in the playoffs that he's better than everyone. our o-line showed it was better than everybody in the playoffs. so when the other one comes out i expect a lot of people from cuero on it. also the 26-3A all district 1st team was basically cuero

About the AP credibility, I now write this every year. Two years ago Jasper had Jorrie Adams, a certified top ten national athlete. Recruited by just about everyone, including teams like Ohio State and Penn State. He is now at A&M and will be playing in the Cotton Bowl as a redshirt freshman. He did not even get Honorable Mention if I remember correctly by the AP. Yet, he was good enough to make several All American high school teams that same year. So I would say that if you know someone who should have been on the team this year, you are probably right. :)

Hupernikomen
12-16-2004, 12:37 AM
The AP has always been a joke. Jorrie Adams was one of the top 5 offensive lineman recruits in the country...Dave Campbell's 3A player of the year and no mention from the AP..they are clueless.

Not to diminish those who made the team..I am sure they all are fine ballplayers.

Terrible showing for east texas athletes. wheres our rep. Hodge from Tatum not even on the list you have got to be joking me. 2 east texas teams in the state game and only like what 3 or 4 on the second team and none on first. All politics with the AP. all crap

proud to see 5 reps from canyon here, 2 first teamers, and 3 honorable mention. theres definitely a lot of ppl who deserve recognition and dont get it, but being on some team that was voted on by mostly people who didnt even see them play can be faulty. not in any way should that diminish being a part of the team at all.

Six Navasota Rattlers on the list. Outstanding. Shows what a great program Coach Burk has built. I knew Chris would be a shoe-in for first team RB, but Markeith Wesley making second-team on both lines is unbelievably awesome. Randall Hutchison made honorable mention both ways, and our QB Scott Martin got more recognition for his defense. Just a few more passing yards and maybe he could have been our third to get voted both ways!
No complaints here, but I do see some other stuff on that list that is strange. Chandler Dane is a great QB, but Manuel Johnson should have got the nod at first team. And if Liberty Hill averaged over 500 yards on the ground per game, shouldn't the whole line be first and second team? And Sweetwater surely had somebody that is worth mentioning am I right? Hold on, my soap box is collapsing. I'm finished.

Navasota did well on this list. About time we got some love for the hard work these kids put in.

Even though the Rattlers have some special young men on the team I didn't give them a snowball's chance. Just hadn't happen for the Rattlers in the past. This truly shows how special these guys are.

Thanks coach Burk (and Staff) for your leadership and support of Rattler kids and showing them how to be winners and leaders. You do make a difference.

THANK YOU RATTLERS for a great season.

I'm not saying that I agree with all the picks. His numbers were still down from last year....He was also the QB, DB, and played in all the other special teams except kickoff so him being on the field kinda affect his kicks this year......PI did not punt every other possesion........They averaged about 3 punts a agame.......

I can't see how saying that you think your guy deserves recognition isn't essentially the same thing as saying good job. When you get on here and congrat. the 1st teamer without recognizing those whose stats were just as impressive is that not an insult as well?? Of course we will take up for our athletes and give them some recognition even if the AP doesn't think they deserve it. And a message board surely wouldn't bother anyone who just made the all-state team..obviously they deserved it.

We have a lot of 3A high schools in the state...only so many spots for so many talented players. Congrats to them all who made it and to those who didn't there is a better poll yet to come out...never fear.

whatever, still think the cuero kids got the shaft. Not only were they a great team, they had some great players on that team.

I did not say the real poll, I said a better poll..and it is my opinion. I think the coaches poll is a better reflection on the talent in our state. I can promise you that the quarterback from Tatum will be on that poll somewhere. Any all-state team that a kid makes is very noteworthy and something to be proud of from now on. If I was affiliated with a few of those players who didn't get some kind of mention I would be upset for them as well. Keep in mind two years ago we had a kid that one poll ranked as the PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR ALL OF 3A, and this AP poll didn't even give him honorable mention. Something is wrong with that.

I will agree that coaches poll is a little better....but it is still an honor for the kids that got selecte for this poll to take pride in....that is all I am trying to say...

You can't have it both ways. Happy for the kids but its a joke.

It's not a joke to the kids who made it.

Congrads to all the kids that made this list! Your special and deserve to be on this team.

I think cuero should of had more players on the list . Zapata almost had more than sinton and cuero combined or at least the same hmmmmmm.

I agree 110%. They are deserving. A few others probably are as well. Every poll is always going to leave someone off and thereby be disappointing. AP seems to have knack for missing the obvious at times.

I am sure that every kid on this team is deserving. I just feel that its a joke that there are some really really really good players that are left off.

Sometimes a team is better because of its collective play and not a couple of outstanding individuals. Jasper having 2 honorable mentions says what we already know..they are a good "team" of players. And not a bunch of great players that are on the same team.

congrats to all the young men that make the list. I'm sure there were a lot more that were deserving that did not make it. Good luck to the one's that take the next step to college ball.

I don't mean this as a knock on Synder, but I just don't see how any team can have 6 people on the all-state team. I might could justify it in my mind if it were a state championship team that steamrolled through the playoffs on their way to a state championship. But I can't justify in my mind a team with 3 losses in a year landing 6 players on the all-state team. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Again, I know this sounds like I'm dissing Snyder, but I'm not.

Congrats to Lando Ochoa on his 3rd consecutive all-state selection. I am sure we'll see him play some college ball. And to PJ Ramos, and Rollie Reyes for the honorable mentions too.

And to all who were selected Congratulations, as well!

The A.P. All-State Teams are a JOKE!

When a region such as East Texas is totally ignored on the first team in just about every classification, then these selections are NOT valid!

East Texas teams have dominated Texas Football this year, and once again West Texas, and DFW area, and Houston area get all of the 1st team votes.

Give me the 3A second team and I GUARANTEE that team will WHIP the @#% of the first team!!!

I know these teams are subjective, but just how good are you when you make 1st team all state as a junior linebacker on a bad 2-8 team who dismissed their coach a week after the season? The answer is very highly regarded & a top recruit next year. Good job Wendell Davis of Sweeny, & best of luck to you. Your new coach surely wishes he had a bunch like you for next year. I'm betting that team shows major improvement under new direction, like letting this kid go both ways. Keep an eye on this kid & this program....

i am disappointed that Charles Huffman only received an honorable mention vote and im pretty sure he put up better numbers than Chris Smith of Navasota who got 1st team.HoweverCongrats to Donovan King for receiving 3a Defensive Player of the Year it was a shock but congrats n e wayz

Huffman was good, but before you go wanting to boot Chris Smith off the list, remember he has put up solid numbers three years in a row and with a scrappy yet perpetually undersized offensive line. And if you ever meet him, you would be proud to have him on that list. He's a class act and an honor roll student. I realize that Huffman put up similar numbers last year also and I think he should have had higher placement. Maybe they'll both play it out in college and a Heisman will decide! (wouldn't that be great, but I won't hold my breath)

i have a good reason why Jared Robertson should be all-state....when we played snyder we put jared against snyder's all-state honorable mention lineman, and jared DESTROYED him on every play...snyder's guy got so frustrated he started throwing punches

Wait Just a Sec there bud. I saw that Film and Game and The Wilie Kid was getting his but kicked by the first tackle (Garcia ) . Garcia got thrown out AFTER the wylie kid was tossed. but Sandifer Cried so much about it on the sideline ( as he does most of the game ) that he talked the offical into tossing Garcia too. Garcia was Kicking your boys A$$. Your boy got frustrated and then shoved him back over a pile and started punching him. Garcia was pushing him back off of him and simply defending himself. IT IS ALL ON FILM. Look at it if you dont believe it. I dont think you want to use the Snyder game as a argument as to why your boy should have gotten all state.

i've seen the film several times, i was at the game too. jared was doing whatever he wanted....after jared ran throught him a couple times and made the tackle behind the line, garcia started hitting him and jared hit back (he won that battle too) and they were both tossed, it doesnt matter what order it was in

jared did not start the thing...for several plays before the fight garcia had been cheap shotting and hitting jared after the play (the plays jared was making behind the line of scrimmage because garcia couldnt block him worth crap)

My boy Chris worked hard for that All State spot. Huffman is good and should have at least made 2nd team, but he isn't up there with Chris.
