You have to be very careful though. In the late 1950s near Christmas time in a small West Texas town a hunter had shot a deer and was skinning it in his back yard and some of the young neighborhood kids (ages 3 to 6) asked him what he was doing and he said "I shot one of Santa's reindeers now he can't deliver presents to you for Christmas!"
Needless to say the kids went running home crying and upset to their parents. The fathers were upset and got together and got a rope and went over to that guy's house and were about to lynch him. Fortunately the Sheriff showed up in time to stop the lynching. The hunter was a little more careful and diplomatic after that. He moved away from the town soon afterward. :D

I hunt about 10 miles from Cotulla and so far this year I have pictures of 7 deer with better than a 20in spread from 6-17 points. Only problem is they are all less than 41/2 years old. I will get two culls though.

La Salle County (Cotulla) is not only one of the best deer hunting in the state, but in the nation. During the La Salle County Fair & Wild Hog Cook Off ,they put up on display all the winners and runner ups of the season. Just got my catalog for the upcoming fair, it's the 2nd weekend in March every year, all are invited to go, I enjoy the Ranch Rodeo the most.

I just found out the last time I went home, my cousin was telling me that “Budweiser” has a ranch a few miles out of Cotulla, where they allow the employees to hunt for FREE!! and anyone else who is not any employee has to pay, but imagine a guarantee nice buck?! Free beer and all meals and lodging included. I know that George Strait shot a trophy winner several years ago, right outside Cotulla.

Other neighboring counties that are great for deer hunting is McMullen (Tilden) & Webb counties.
