Gilmer and Ohio State only Buckeyes in Nation

I have read that Gilmer and Ohio State are the only two schools in the entire nation that have Buckeyes as their mascot. Do any Gilmer fans know if that is true?

Our one time weekend softball team is the only one that I know called Yacares! Also I have never heard of any team called Snakes! I have heard of Cobras and Rattlers and Rattlesnakes but never just plain snakes! :thinking: ???

yes, there was a thread on smoaky about 4 months ago talking about it. Evidently some student from Ohio State did a paper on Mascots in the US, calculating how many Bulldogs, Panthers, Eagles, Buckeyes, etc.... His finding where that there were only two Buckeye teams: Ohio State and Gilmer.

Personally I think the American Fork Cavemen of Utah are a pretty cool mascot. ;)

Somewhere (not sure where) GHS has a letter or something from The Ohio State University acknowledging that the two schools are the only Buckeyes. You'd think that someone in Ohio would have that mascot as well, but I guess not.
