SHSU wins!!! What a come back. 43 seconds left on a blocked fg no time outs on their own 24 and thwey drive to the 7 on several short outs to the sidelines then score on a pass over the middle to tie it 34 34. EP good 35-34 game over.

Huper's Analysis of the days games.

1st Game

Gilmer vs. Tatum 1100 yards offense so I won't waste time talking about the vaunted defenses of either teams because I didn't see much defense. It is safe to say that both teams had very hard time stopping the multi-threat offenses each brought to the game.

Offese: Gilmer was totally unstoppable. The quarterback was extremely accurate with his passes and the receiver had hands made out of super glue. Anything they could reach they caught. Serveral very, very good grabs all through out the game. The qb was a FAST runner as well. Didn't run with a lot of power but when they can't catch you that doesn't matter much. Pretty much scored at will.

Tatum offense was very good as well. Not as dominant as Gilmer but racked up big points and big yards. Gilmer made just enough plays to force a couple punts and turnovers to win this one in convincing fashion. Hodge was all he is cracked up to be. Showed a good passing arm probably a bit more arm than Gilmer's qb but not as accurate. He ran the ball extremely well. Very hard to catch when he scrambled, and rarely came down on the first or second hit. Tough runner for sure. Great game glad I got to see it.

2nd Game

Marlin vs. Jasper from the eyes of a Jasper fan. Cunbed or someone else can give their slant if they wish because I am sure they saw things in a different light.

Marlin Offense: Tank is a tank. He had several very nice runs. He broke a few for big yardage but never could completely break loose for the TD. Jasper had angles on him the couple times he looked like he might score, probably against most teams he would have scored on a couple of runs.

QB was very good. He was an elusive runner and a great passer. We gave this kid way to much time to find an open receiver (which he did all night) for 3 quarters. He racked up good yardage in the air and on the ground.

This game was much like the previous 3 Jasper has played; opposing offense move the ball and then lose it or get stop cold in the red zone. Same thing happened a few times tonight. Unfortunate turnover deep in Jasper's territory early in the game hurt Marlin.

Marlin's defense: Struggled mightly stopping Jasper's multifaceted running attack. Came up with some big plays, but couldn't make the tackle of a few runs that kept drives going for Jasper. Defensive backs only saw maybe 3 passes by Jasper the whole night. I will say that it was tough running to the left for Jasper tonight, so Marlin's right side of their defense was stout.

Jasper offense: FINALLY. They looked solid and played to their strength; they ran the freaking ball all night. All 3 of the primary backs had big nights. I don't remember the ball being on the turf tonight which was huge for us after so many fumbles this year. Congrats to Moye on playing well beyond his age. Patton and Bronson deserve a lot of credit for good hard running as well Hunt who came in to spell those to.
(BTW: for those who would know where was the younger Bronson #45 tonight?)
Offensive line deserve a lot of credit in this one as well.

Jasper defense: very solid against the run. Gave up some yardage but kept Tank out of the endzone that means they played very well. Against the pass  Well really not all the defensive backs fault we didn't even rush the QB for nearly 3 quarters, once we figured out to blitz a corner or backer we started slowing down the passing attack.

Man it was a fun game to watch for this Jasper fan.

Congrats to Marlin on a fine season and here's wishing you guys luck in the future. I hope Tank makes it to college somewhere and does well. Nice to meet Cunbed and his 3 boys....man he has a bruiser 9 year old:D

Hats off to the jasper Bulldogs. Ya'll played a good game with lots of heart and emotion. Your backs, including the sophmore qb, are real studs and ran with authority all night long.

Marlin Bulldogs, ya'll made us proud with a good season in a year where I thought we were rebuilding! Even though we could not put together our A game ya'll still showed a lot of fight and heart to stay in the hunt. Keep your heads up and get to the weight room to get stronger for the next run.

I'll be pulling for the Jasper dogs and Reg III to take it all.... it only gets tougher from here...stay focused.
