Right off hand I know Burnet has been the Bridesmaid for 3 years, could be more. Forney has at least 2 and I imagine there are many with 1 ie., Marlin, but who holds the record for most appearances, without a win ie., Buffalo Bills.

Vernon has been the Bride one time and the Brides maid one time. They have had 5 semi-final apperances though, of course only two won and 1 of those won it all.

It is so very hard to win a state championship, or even get into the big game.

Something to note: If you make it to the semi-finals your team gets a UIL 3rd place trophy and every player on the team receives a bronze medal. I'm sure at the time it doesn't make it better for the players that just lost the game before state, but as the year goes on that bronze medal represents something very special I'm sure.

Burnet played in the State 3A championship game in 1991, this was before there was a Division 1 & 2. The score was Groesbeck 7 Burnet 0. Burnet set a record that year for the number of games won in the playoffs by penatration and 1st downs. They played Southlake Carrol in the semi final. The score was 0 to 0.

Vernon was also a victim that same year to Burnett. It sucked. Thank God we now have extra periods. If my memory serves me right we tied on penetrations and they won on 1st downs. Problem with that is when you score on big plays with very few 1st downs on the drive and the other team goes on long drives and gets 1st downs and then scores it just ain't right.
