Palestine was up 28-7 after the 1st quarter then sat on the lead with their defense. Connally didn't have the speed to stay with Palestine.

By SHANE STARK, Staff Writer
WACO - Palestine's first season in Class 3A just kicked into high gear.

Behind quarterback Fred Williams and running back Cameron Jones, Palestine ran past Waco Connally 38-14 Saturday night at Baylor University's Floyd Casey Stadium to earn a berth in the Class 3A Division I semifinals.

The Wildcats, who dropped from 4A to 3A during realignment last February, will play Cuero in the semifinals next week at Round Rock ISD Stadium. The game is tentatively scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday.

Cuero defeated Sinton in San Antonio on Friday.

Jones rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries and Williams rushed 18 times for 94 yards, plus completed 4 of 8 passes for 129 yards and two TDs as Palestine built a commanding 31-14 halftime lead.

Leon Mickens and Lee Stubblefield recorded two receptions and a touchdown each for the Wildcats.

The Palestine defense made Connally play comeback most of the night and held the Cadet running game to 45 yards on 15 carries. Connally quarterback Jordan Williams completed 9 of 28 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown.

Williams put Connally on top on the Cadet's third play from scrimmage when he connected with Robert Edmonds for an 85-yard TD. Edmonds finished with three receptions for 113 yards.

Afterward, Palestine reeled off 28 unanswered points.

The Wildcats started the run by putting together a nine-play, 68-yard drive that Jones capped with a 10-yard run.

Congratulations Palestine! :)

You continue to impress and amaze me. I never doubted that you were good, but when in District you lost to Rusk, and Diboll played you close I figured you were pretty good, but not super outstanding. Now, I understand that the Rusk game was played on a sloppy field which neurtralized your speed.

What was the story with Diboll? I am beginning to think that Diboll must have had a very good football team to have held Palestine that close. Anyone's thoughts? I know that Jasper folks felt pretty good to hold them scoreless.

We beat Diboll 21-12. They scored their second TD at the very end of the game. In saying that, they are a very good team and also have a very good D-1 player Jermichael Finley who I have been told gave a verbal to Arizona to play football and basketball.

Diboll played Palestine close. Palestine had an 11(i think)play drive in the 4th quarter and ran the clock down to like 2 mins. That killed any chance for Diboll...anyways that's the past and now it seems like Palestine is rolling...making 21-3a look better.

Yes, the more Palestine wins and wins big, the better Diboll and 21-3a looks. :)
