will be when the women's college soccer will start recruiting. That is why we haven't heard anything yet. For the 2004 recruiting year the top five schools in recruiting were 1. Texas A&M 2. North Carolina 3. Texas 4. Penn State and 5. Notre Dame. American Soccer puts out a list of the top 25 recruits and the Lady Aggies got 4 of them even though they were not in the top 10. North Carolina was No. 2 because even though they just got two one was the top one in Ashlyn Harris of Florida. Texas was No. 3 because they got two of the top ten in Stephanie Logterman and Kelsey Carpenter. The third Texas recruit was Caitlin Kennedy who is in top 15. Penn State got the No. 5. recruit in Sheree Gray of N.J. and Notre Dame got two of them. Two of the Texas recruits (Carpenter and Kennedy) were nice enough to sign my son's roster book at the Big 12 tournament in San Antonio a few weeks ago. :)

That is the beautiful thing about soccer. The best teams don't always win. And women's college soccer is great.

Soccer is so interesting. I will tell you a little flashback history to 2003 when the Lady Horns played the Lady Aggies in a great game in Austin. Texas had never beaten the Aggies or had a tie. Ironically this was a game the Lady Aggies needed to win more than the Lady Horns. In the first half Texas had outplayed the Lady Aggies and came close to scoring but couldn't get the ball over the goal line and it was scoreless at the half. In the second half the same thing but then with about 20 minutes to play the Lady Aggies got off a freak shot that just happened to hit the side bar just right and bounce in to give the Lady Aggies the lead 1 to 0. It looked like the Lady Aggies were going to win but then with 36 left on a kick in Mcbain of Texas kicked the ball into the goal tying the game up. However the Lady Aggies got the ball to the Texas side quickly and then got a penalty kick about ten yards outside the box in the last few seconds. The Lady Aggie made a great kick that would have won the game but it was just over the bar which sent the game into overtime. The teams played two overtime quarters but no one was able to score. Then with under three minutes to play on a kick in by Texas the ball hit a Lady Aggies hand inside the box which gave Texas a penalty kick. Thaden of Texas kicked the ball to her left to the goal and the Lady Aggie goalie got the tips of her hand on it but it was not enough to stop the momentum and the ball went in to give Texas the score and their first win over the Lady Aggies in soccer. A great game that was well played by both sides.
