What would happen if A&M were to beat Texas and Utah AND Boise State make it into the top 6? Both are guaranteed a BCS game. How would that make things shake down?

Only the highest-ranked mid-major (Utah) is guaranteed a BCS spot if they both sneak into the top six. Boise State won't be guaranteed a BCS Bowl unless they pass up the Utes in the BCS standings.

keith, i know and you know that bcs doesnt know what is going on, they took out strength of schedule aswell as how well a team played. it really screws the good teams who deserve to be there. thus another reason why college should go to a playoff type atmosphere instead of having just bowls being played. there are too many of them anyway.

Even though they've lost a game, Louisville should be ranked ahead of Boise. I actually wouldn't mind seeing the Cardinals and the Utes go at it in a BCS Bowl.

According to Brad Edwards article on ESPN.com, if Texas/Cal loses and Boise St. ends up in the top 6, they also get the automatic bid. This means if A&M beats Texas, and Georgia or Miami doesn't jump Boise St, Cal would be left out and Utah and Boise would be BCS teams.

Could be a very interesting few weeks.

ESPN's wrong. Here's a link to the official BCS website.

Scroll down the page to the "Qualifications for At-Large Teams" paragraph... read criteria #2... (http://www.bcsfootball.org/index.cfm?page=eligibility)

Scroll down the page to the "Qualifications for At-Large Teams" paragraph... read criteria #2... (http://www.bcsfootball.org/index.cfm?page=eligibility) I may be reading it wrong, but it said if there is more than 2 mid-conference teams, they could select any 2. So technically, Boise and Utah could both make a BCS bowl.

The way I read that is that Boise St. would have to get the other at large bid if they finish in the top six of the BCS, since there wouldn't be more than 2 from non BCS conferences. If there were more than 2 though, then they would get to pick and choose, but since there is 2, they would have to take Boise St. as well if they cracked top 6.

"Any team (mid-major or independent)...which is ranked third through sixth in the final BCS standings, shall qualify for a berth in one of the BCS games unless more than two teams meet this criterion."

If two teams meet this criterion, only one is guaranteed a spot unless the other one is Notre Dame. The way rest of the thing is worded is a little confusing, but Boise State wouldn't be guaranteed a BCS berth.

What's up with the special consideration for Notre Dame?

ND isn't in a conference, that's why they get special consideration.

The way I read it, Boise St. and Utah would be locks in that situation. It says if "more than two", Utah and Boise would be two, so they would both get automatic bids.

That's the way I read it.

out of the top six I wanna see:

Auburn vs. USC for the national championship

Oklahoma vs Cal - Rose bowl

Texas vs Utah - fiesta

I know those are way off from what will happen, but I think those would be the best games. Maybe the BCS could come up wtih some sort of way for fans or maybe even the media/coaches to vote on particular matchups they wanna see. Or, or better yet... how bout a playoff system!!! :D

Maybe I'm the idiot who read it wrong. I always thought only two could go if Notre Dame and a mid-major made it into the top six.

Sorry guys. Won't happen again.

Simple. Those other schools aren't Notre Dame, if you know what I mean.
