93 team wasn't bad either huh?:p 14-6 in state final over Cuero. I still remember listening to that game as an 8 year old. Cuero was ahead 6-0 at halftime. But unfortunately SLC started putting it on us.

83 daingerfield....no question. They were not scored on in the playoffs and only had one touchdown scored on them all year. They won both their semifinal and finals games 42-0. The only team to give them a real scare that year was Carthage and they went to the quarterfinals in 4A.

I know we just had this topic a little while back, but I can't remember too many who knew about Daingerfield arguing against them. They outscored their opponents something like 620-8. Eight points!!! That's a safety, a TD and a blocked XP all year long, over the course of 16 games. Nobody was even remotely in their league. That Carthage game that vet93 was talking about, I believe, had a final score of 35-6. That was their biggest scare!!!

This shouldn't even be an argument, folks, unless you're arguing second. I don't think that anyone who's heard about that '83 Daingerfield team would go against them. They led all classifications that year in scoring defense (and set the bar in record books for that matter) and were in the top five in scoring offense, hanging about 40 points per game on everybody. I want to say that they allowed something like 80 yards a game (don't quote me on this... if somebody knows the exact, ridiculous number feel free to post it) through the regular season and the playoffs. I remember that it was insanely low, and that was even after playing six playoff teams. They outscored their opponents 631-8, didn't allow a single defensive TD, posted shutouts in 14 of 16 games, and went off for a UIL record 13 shutouts in a row. That record still stands. Through the season, they plowed through four teams ranked in the AP poll, and there wasn't a team that came within 28 points of beating them. Oh, and they hold the modern record for fewest points allowed (in a season that extended beyond 10 games). That's dominance. They also hold the eighth-biggest blowout in Texas Bowl history, by 42 points over 3rd-ranked Sweeny.

Thanks, 66. Just post that on the homepage for future reference.:p Here's a little more, from the old Collier-Sharp. These are the scores during their playoff run...

BI-DISTRICT
Daingerfield 43, Clarksville 0

Daingerfield 22, Robinson 0

OK, so I lied. Their closest game was a 22-point spread over Robinson. But still, they shut out EVERYONE in the playoffs. Not a single point. Has anyone else ever done that in the modern era?

I attended the state championship game that year against Sweeny. Daingerfield had 2 touchdowns called back! By the beginning of the 4th quarter they had pulled their starters, most of their second teamers and actually allowed a couple of their linemen to play running back....no lie! The score in that game could have been much worse. Sweeny had one bright spot. Their best player (Tracy Simien) who went on to play for TCU and Kansas City....layed one of the best hits that I have ever seen in high school. Our team was one game away from playing that monster, but we lost to Post. I know this sounds crazy....but I would have loved to see if we could have scored against those guys....I am quite sure that they would have killed us though!
