I was wondering who everyone thinks has the best program. Year in year out of making the playoffs and going deep.

I would have to list Marlin at the top of the list I think Japer also but I fell like they are behind Marlin.

Jasper is pretty good, but I wouldn't list them as the best...maybe top 10...we make the playoffs a lot but don't always go very deep.

Ya, cuero has only not been in the playoffs what, once(2001) out of the last how many years? Even though they have lost in the first rd. the previous 2 yrs, I'd say they are still one of the top programs in 3A!

Southlake Carroll

Props to Southlake for voting to keep that a one-high school town.

I'd say you have to win it every now and then to be the best. Southlake is the best at any level in my opinion. In 3A, I would say Atlanta even though they had a down year.

I'm gonna say Halletsville just cuz they made it to the 2nd round this year and are 1 person away from being a 2a school and they have one of the best defenses in the area...that's heart right there

Class 1A Roby deserves mention. Their enrollment has qualified them to be 6-man for a few years now, but they've opted to play 11-man and consistently make the playoffs.

Sinton has had great teams for decades...consistently. I like sintons program. The team is so well balanced on offense and defensively were steady up the middle.

and if were talking about high school football in general and not just 3a, then foster high school in my hometown deserves lots of attention. this is only their 3rd year of having varsity football and they lost only one game in the regular season in a district that includes bay city, bf terry, and el campo....all great teams. they handed bay city their only loss this year as well.

I would say that to me, a program doesn't just consist of the past four or five years. It's a body of work for the past 20 or so years. Cuero, Atlanta, Sweetwater, Abilene Wylie and Daingerfield are all up there. I'd also consider Newton a program, since they've only been in 2A for a year and they got more out of fewer kids than most 3A schools. Another program that everyone's forgot is Vernon. They were an absolute power in the 90's, just like Sealy, Cuero, Tatum, Port Isabel and all the above schools.

If you're just looking at the past five years, though, I don't know if anyone's been to more playoff games than Sinton. Forney and Everman are up there, and Jasper is probably right behind them, but stints in 4A hurt all the other teams.

Not only was Vernon a powerhouse in the 90's but the 80's as well. They had a coach there, Leo Britain, who was there for over 20 years. He seemed to take his teams deep in the playoffs almost every year.

Overall, best program in the state? Well now thats a really really tough question. Still overall, I would definetly have to say that Southlake Carroll is by far the best PROGRAM in the state of Texas. Yes there are others, but SLC is on another level. Todd Dodge is running a wonderful program up there. He's being groomed for an even more important position here in TEXAS one day. You heard it here first. Go Horns!

Rice has a solid program. Going to the playoffs the last five years. Without the tragedy and key injuries late in the season this year, I think the Raiders would have made some serious noise. They would have easily gone 3 or 4 rounds deep, if not all the way. This group of guys were outstanding. Looking for more great things to come in the next year and on into the future!!!

I can't quote how far Jasper's been in all of these, but I can think of quite a few appearances up to regional or beyond. I have no idea about the lengths of Marlin's runs. Most of what I know about Marlin in the playoffs was that they were the stone wall Newton ran into about 4 times (maybe consecutively). But the fact is that Jasper has been in the playoffs literally twice as many times as Marlin. My post was to counter the opinion of the thread's origniator.

Jasper has many many apparence but until recently hadn't been past the quarter finals since before integration. I understand that the black only school team won a state championship team or two before integration.

As of 2003, Sinton was right behind these at 26.
Sinton (27) 1932,42,45,50,55,56,59,60,62,63,64,82,83,85,86,87, 90,91,92,96,
98,99,2000,01,02,03 and now, 04. Interestingly enough, Sinton has missed the playoffs only once in the last eight years.
