Greenwood's Brooks named district's defensive MVP

The Greenwood football team boasts the defensive player of the year and six other first-team selections on the all-District 3-3A team.

Senior linebacker Jarrell Brooks was awarded Defensive Most Valuable Player honors, as well as first-team offensive recognition as a running back.


The Rangers defense was represented well, as defensive backs Eric Skaggs and Jordan Puga, linebacker Blake Higgins and defensive end Slias Etheridge were selected to the first team.


Skaggs also made the first team as a kicker, joining tight end Dallas Golden and offensive lineman A.J. McColloch on 3-3A's top offensive unit.


Five Greenwood players earned second-team status -- running back Justin Seebree, receiver Andrew Zachry, offensive lineman Brad Crow, defensive lineman Dean Smith and linebacker David Hill.


Greenwood coach Bob Purser was honored as one of three coaches of the year, joining fellow district-champion coaches Gary Roan of Fort Stockton and Chris Burtch of Seminole.


The Rangers were second only to Seminole with seven first-team honorees. The Indians received eight first-team selections, while Monahans had six.
